June 10, 201213 yr Jet Pilot was the one with John Wayne and Janet Leigh. Yeah, that was the one! It was pretty hokie, but then I was but a child when I saw it, LOL!

June 10, 201213 yr The rivet indentations and panel lines are way over the top, sorry to say this, but it looks awful with those panel indentations and rivets sticking out like that. The real thing is very streamlined, as it had to be when jet engines were in their infancy. Compare those screenshots to the linked images below, which are admittedly very shiny preserved ones, but even so, you can't see many rivets unless close up; it is the differences in alloy shine between adjacent panels which delineate them rather than visible lines in between them. Even if you've never seen one in flight for real, you can see that is true in the footage taken in the movie The Hunters, and those were genuine operational ones at the time that footage was shot: http://www.myfreewal...-86-sabre.shtml http://warbirdherita...86_0_Specs.html http://www.vacwarbir...abre/index.html http://www.wmof.com/F-86.html Hope it's going to have a smoky exhaust trail added too, can't see one on those pics; the real think leaves quite a noticable trail. June 10, 201213 yr Commercial Member The rivets will be redone. This is a wip and it's first day fully painted in FSX. As well, it will deffo have smoke... June 10, 201213 yr Was kind of hoping you'd say that, I'd really like a nice F-86 for FSX. I thought they looked over the top on the close up preview shot at the start of the thread, but was waiting to see what that looked like at a distance and rendered in FSX, and seeing those shots of it in the sim, indeed they were. Anyway, good to know it is being looked at. Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

Al, it's pretty common modeling practice for the initial pass at setting up the FSX Materials to overdo the bump and specular effects to make certain they are actually working... ...after all, it's far easier to tone down the effects than it is to try to find out later that they were not correctly set up to begin with! :Nerd: Fr. June 10, 201213 yr Oh I know that, I teach courses on 3DS Max for a living amongst other things, which is why I did not comment on it when it was a render in a modeling program on the first piccy, but when I saw it with screenies in FSX and noticed it had a comment under the pics saying that it was going to be passed on to beta testers, I thought it was time to mention it. June 10, 201213 yr Commercial Member Well its not quite beta yet. More like mid to late alpha. Some of the testers are a tad mad at me cuz i have been hanging on to this one and almost single handedly testing everything i do on the systems.....But i had to. Some of the things were a bit....ground breaking for me. Jonathan "FRAG" Bleeker Formerly known here as "Narutokun" If I speak for my company without permission the boss will nail me down.
