A quick fly by of Pro ATC

Featured Replies

Hi!

Can we get an yay or nay for this product? Im thinking of buying it... I have tried VOX-ATC a couple of flights, but havent got it working...

And the progress for this product seems to be pretty good, loads of updates in a very short period of time... that seems really promising...

So considering this... Is this addon worth a buy if I just want to use the ATC part?... I dont care much about the first officer stuff... I only want a good ATC-addon that works with sid and stars...

So what are your thoughts?... those of you that have bought it,do you regret the buy? or are you happy with it?:-)

Come on, convince me either to buy or to not buy... ;-)you got about 3 hours... :-p

Good luck

/Niklas

I have done that 2 times now, its a loooot of posts ; -)

But honestly... the ideas seems to go from THIS IS REALLY GOOD, to "THIS is the worst ever... and then back again...

So I would like to get an final opinion... :)

I don't think opinions will change much.Shills and the few happy users will tell you to buy it others will tell you to stay away or say nothing. You can read what I think about this gem above. BTW did you look at more solid/stable products like radar contact and pfe ?

I have tried radar contact, the problem with that is that it doesnt handle sids and stars... PFE I havent tried but have read that its not as realistic as the other ATC-addons...

I know you had problems with Voxatc I had problems too but once you get the hang of it it works great. You just need to follow the instructions to the letter and if you have problems you post on the voxatc forums on avsim or email the developer.Give it a go.

At this time, Niklas, I would not advise getting the product. I stress *at this time* because the product has the potential to be fantastic and is on that course. It still needs more time in development. I would strongly suggest holding the money and keeping an eye on its progress. If you chose to make the leap, as I did, be aware that the product will likely not work from start to completion for you. Do not allow this to dissuade you totally.

/Off-Topic

I tried the VoxATC free 7 day trial and found it to be a nice program. I would be using it except for the incredibly loud and painful pop I get when keying the comm. After asking for help I was told that is the way the program is and the pop cannot be turned off. If you chose to try VoxATC be aware that I appear to be the only, or possibly one of a few, who experienced that issue and the bulk of users do not seem to be affected by the pop. In other words give the trial version a shot. You certainly have nothing to lose.

Thanks, To continue with the OTmode...

The voice function with vox is great and adds to the realism but sometimes you just wants to rest the voice and be quiet... Like when the family is asleep and such... So the way that vox forces me to speak in a loud amd clear voice is a problem sometimes...

And why not have both... Its only money after all:-P thanks for the input though

Niklas Eriksson

yes you can have both. It's up to you. When the family is asleep you don't need to talk and you can do everything with the keyboard if you wish no talking no nothing

So far I have found FSX ATC is not bettered in funcionality or in use by another. With FSX ATC choose departure (SID) choose approach (STAR), change plans at any time during the flight, it vectors you off course to turn onto waypoints, runs the Ai aircraft according to your flight (assuming compatible Ai traffic is injected). I think all ATC programs use FSX ATC and dress it up with varying degrees of success.

Remember; ATC is easily scuppered by Ai traffic. You can also find yourself descending into mountains in some regions. The FSX scenery often presents mountains too high or too low compared to the SID/STAR fix data in FSX - watch out!

ProATC seems to be getting worked on while we speak, so in theory the program will eventually do what it is supposed to, to our satisfaction. The danger of threads like this is that the devs can be rushed into providing more mistakes.

If it goes wrong, report the problem as clearly as possible, and continue with your regular flying and wait for an update. There is no need to let it interfere with your flying any more than that. With patience and support from the likes of Jim and the others, the program will improve.

With the demise of FLIGHT - we can wait.

With FSX ATC choose departure (SID) choose approach (STAR),

Respectfully Steve, I think that's misleading info. FSX ATC does not allow you to choose a SID/STAR. If you know the waypoints within a SID/STAR you can make a FSX flightplan incorporating the waypoints of a SID/STAR. ProATC gives the user a SID/STAR on each flight depending on weather conditions. That's a bit more realistic than FSX ATC. The developers have so far made fixes for issues we have discovered. They are now working on getting the PMDG aircraft compatible and make the descent phase into an airport a bit more realistic. They continue to work hard on this product and I think, in the end, they will have a very nice working ATC program.

For Niklas: ProATC works very well most of the time when using the default aircraft and it is very easy to use especially if you let the co-pilot help you out with the gauges, NAV/COM frequencies, and let him/her fly your aircraft once it is off the ground. So, if you want to fly using default aircraft, it's ready. If you want to fly a PMDG product, you can but your co-pilot will only handle NAV/COM frequencies. So you will have to be very familiar with the PMDG FMC and have the ability to edit the LEGS pages with the route the ATC provides during the flight. I think more people should buy it and help out on making it one of the best ATC products for FSX.

Best regards,

Jim

I am an early adaptor to ProATC - and I ditched it after the first flight.

I was NEVER informed about updates by the developers - where can I get the updates?

FSX ATC does not allow you to choose a SID/STAR.

With FSX ATC you can choose whatever departure you want, and when you get to "Expect vectors...", you can choose whatever approach you want.

Best regards

Steve

I bought it just a while ago, on my first flight... so far its very good...the atc voices are really good, way better than anything else...

I am very familiar with the pmdg fmc so thats no problem, however I cant get the co pilot to handle the com radio, that would be nice...

Anyhow, a very nice addon at least so far...

Niklas Eriksson

Jim,

I am quite sure that nothing will make you change your mind about Pro-ATC being "ready for prime time".

But I think that an add-on having the prefix "Pro" (what does it stand for: procedural? professional?) should do better than "working very well most of the time when using the default aircraft".

Also your statement "I think more people should buy it and help out on making it one of the best ATC products for FSX" deserves a comment:

If a product is released as a finished version (v1.x) I would exspect it to work as described (with a few glitches, of course). If it is an incomplete version needing some beta testing there is a scheme for that too: release it as v0.1 (going up to v0.9) at a discount price and offer a still reduced price for the finished product to those who took the trouble to participate in final beta testing (Captain Sim is doing that). I don't think it is good practice to charge the full price and exspect users to "help out".

Best regards, Andreas
