Has anyone ever outrun the cops?

Featured Replies

I've done so many clandestine missions and when it comes to cops there are basically two kinds. Either they appear on your HUD for a second and then vanish, or they appear and stay and eventually catch you no matter what. I have tried a bunch of times but have never been able to get away if they stay on my hud for more than a few seconds. Now I just crash the plane so I can start again. Has anyone ever been able to lose the cops in this situation?

Early on, I had them flying along my original course-track for several miles, once, closing to just over a mile from me at one point. I stayed low and turned off at a diverging angle, opening the range. Don't think they ever saw me.

Now, I plot a roundabout route that keeps me well off the direct path to the destination and never see them at all anymore.

I fly 90 degrees off course for the first 5-10 minutes, parallel the course most of the way, then turn back in to the destination. Haven't seen them once while following that profile.

There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.

I`ve had them appear quite a few times but have only actually been caught once. I generally do the same as RoboRay and EastCoastGuy and fly an indirect route.

Yep, works not every time but often.

As soon as they appear divert, if possible dive to gain a bit more speed.

Also possible when flying above land: Look for a mountain/hill and dive behind it and/or land. They will hit the mountain as they will try to catch you! But be careful, as soon as you are up in the air again they may also take-off again because their plane will not be destroyed.

But the best solution is to always fly not the direct route to the destination but make a detour.

Just flown my first clandestine mission... On a previous install of MS FLIGHT I ahd another one, but it got lost somehow...

On the one I flew yesterday no cops appeared, although the copilot did mention some airplane above us high... Never saw him, and eventuialy landed at the destination with no trouble... :-)

If the police comes and you fly over land, you can try to land somewhere. I did it twice and it worked. They disappear after some seconds. I haven´t seen the police seens a lot of flights, because I fly an indirect heading, but not much more than 20° beside. That seems to be enough. The next thing is, that you don´t have to hold the 1000ft rule! As long as you don´t take the direct heading, you can fly as high as you want.

I tried it several times: Above 1000ft AND direct headng = 90% Police. Indirect heading for a long time until you are under 20nm to the dest. AND above 1000ft = 0% Police

Cheers, Stephan

Ok, I followed a direct heading on my first Clandestine Mission, between islands, but I kept between 10 and 20 ft above the Ocean, so no cops came by....

To answer the question, besides the landing solution, and the fast diving one (supposing you had altitude), I have been able to evade the cops for real once, by lead them to a canyon that is in U-shape from above. If you go fast enough around, the AI will try to cut his way through the mountain (where is the I in AI ???)... It seems the AI doesn't always recognize the shape of mountains or terrain...

Just an idea I havent tried so far ...

Is it possible to fly clandestine missions in multiplayer mode ?

Can another player crash into to the cops plane ?

Yes

No

Wow a lot of great ideas here. I had no idea that the 1k altitude limit didn't matter. I turned off dialog and subtitles a while ago because I was sick of hearing my stupid copilot blabber. I'll try deviating and flying higher. Unfortunately all of the cops I have encountered have been over water.

I Found the EASTCOASTGUYs recommendation to be effective..it worked last night again ..Like a Scared Crook,I turn off lights, and radios...fly over water 50 to 100 Ft...on this successful attempt...the LAW was over the Destination Airport ,after I out ran them...Funny,I landed with the Law flying right over head???? Puzzling.!....Wonder what Fiendish programer/designer figures this out???? Great Fun!!

Never saw the Law :-|... Where are these guys ???

I've flown 30-40 something clandestine missions, and FWIW here's my guess on how the cop AI generally works: If the heading is too close to a direct heading towards destination, the cops will arrive. They first arrive briefly and go away after a few seconds as a kind of a warning. This gives you a chance to quickly pick a heading that deviates further from the destination. If you don't do this, they will reappear, this time for good. Radios and lights might matter, but I'm not sure. I usually fly with them set normally. Also, I always stay low, so I don't know how altitude plays into the mix.

Mind you, I have had experiences that does not fit this model. Once I was caught running through the pre-takeoff checklists, not even having left the ground.

When the cops appear the second time, you are usually out of luck, but I was able to outrun them once. I think it's a matter of speed and/or being able to break the line of sight between you and the cops. In my case I was flying along a small ridge a mile or two from the shore, so when they appeared I could throw the Maule into a steep dive over the cliff towards the shore, reaching nearly 200 kph. Then, as I reached the shore, there was a 100-200 ft cliff straight up from the water that I could fly behind, thus breaking the line of sight between me and the cops. The cops stopped their circling pattern and continued on a direct heading towards the destination, and continued on that heading when passing it. I stayed low during the approach, but other than that the landing was normal.
