June 21, 201213 yr We shall all soon be moving on to Alaska, but before we do, here is a "news" tidbit that I found hilarious (but, then, I am easily amused ). [cite=url="http://news.yahoo.co...XN0czE-;_ylv=3"' name="AFP" date="06/21/2012" Oracle chief buys Hawaiian island Oracle boss Larry Ellison has bought a Hawaiian island from a fellow multi-billionaire businessman, the governor of the US Pacific Ocean state said. Ellison, co-founder and chief executive officer of the tech giant, has purchased 98 percent of the 141 square mile (365 square kilometer) island of Lana'i from its owner Castle & Cooke, governor Neil Abercrombie said on Wednesday. Castle & Cooke, a Los Angeles-based company headed by businessman David Murdock, filed a transfer application with Hawaii's Public Utilities Commission, said a statement posted on the governor's website.... ... The price paid by the Oracle chief was not specified, but the island state's Star Advertiser newspaper quotes Castle & Cooke as saying it was hundreds of millions of dollars.... ...California-based Ellison's net worth is estimated at $36 billion by Forbes magazine, which ranks him sixth in its global rich list, while Murdock's is somewhat lower, at $2.7 billion, sharing 442nd place. [/cite] It always amazes me what the rich do with their money. Oh, and for when MGS finally gets to the Caribbean, Richard Branson has bought a second Virgin Island, so maybe someday he'll own the lot! :LMAO: Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
June 21, 201213 yr They were asking $600 million for it. I wonder what they settled on. My own offer of $115.28 did not receive a response.
June 21, 201213 yr How amazing would that be to own your own Hawaiian island. Fun fun fun. However, would be funner to be 36 billion dollars rich.
June 21, 201213 yr Thank you thank you... Oh wait I thought this was about me. :) That is a huge island!

June 21, 201213 yr I had read at one time on a real estate page that only native Hawaiians could own land in Hawaii and that any house you bought there sat on leased land. Is that not correct? Also.... OT Does anyone know why the Firefox built in spell checker doesn't work for posts in this forum? Rag Tag Fleet Development Team Member. http://yankeeclippersmobile.com/forum
June 21, 201213 yr Actually, what would be more fun, would be to buy the island next to his one, buy a few warplanes, and then declare war on him. :LMAO: Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 21, 201213 yr declare war on him You could fire copies of SAP at him..(sorry bad IT joke :Nerd: ) JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
June 21, 201213 yr You could fire copies of SAP at him..(sorry bad IT joke :Nerd: ) Won't work. He has taken that into consideration already. I work at a place with SAP and the back-end database is Oracle. :Hypnotized: Rag Tag Fleet Development Team Member. http://yankeeclippersmobile.com/forum
June 21, 201213 yr Just wonder how long it will be before Lana'i airport is changed to accommodate long-range biz jets. While Mr. Ellison could fly into Mau'i and helicopter over, why should he? I expect PHNY will be doubled in length within two years. While in the past Lana'i has been known for pineapples, nowadays it's referred to as "Millionaires Island".
June 21, 201213 yr I work at a place with SAP and the back-end database is Oracle. LOL - we have SAP at our place and it has Microsoft SQL as its back-end DB.. Between Larry, Steve Balmer and whoever owns SAP, they could probably buy a few more islands :) JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
June 21, 201213 yr I've been Rich all my life... and trust me... it ain't all it's cracked up to be...

I expect PHNY will be doubled in length within two years. It's got a 5001' x 150' runway now. Will he really need two miles to stop his biz jet?
