Featured Replies

Fixed now, thanks to tweaks/fermin@fswidgets and you guy's patience and help.

Made ini file, put in wrong folder.

when I re-did it in right folder, left as txt; changed to ini.

Ok so I finally had some time and gave this a go.

Appears to work beautifully for me, and now I have my secondary monitor available to me as well whilst appearing to be flying in full screen mode - and Gmap works great on that second monitor.

Many thanks Jeroen, now to go to the tutorial on using Plan G...

Don B

I added a second monitor, my extra flat screen tv , using HDMI cable, to my HP laptop.

I made the tv my main monitor. MSF works there under pseudo-screen mode. GMAP, email, etc on my laptop screen.

Task bar shows on tv monitor.

I really preferred Flight in full screen, but that was my one gripe with it - it effectively made the second monitor useless for using while running Flight, and I just did not like flying in windowed mode.

This psuedo full screen along with Gmap is an excellent alternative for me.

Jeroen, you should get a copy of this posted into the Flight tutorial section before too long as it will eventually get buried away in here. I would remove the " on one monitor" from the title, as it works beautifully on a second monitor as well!

And it is a great answer for those of us that prefer full screen and run two monitors, whether one uses Gmap or not, gives us access to that second monitor while appearing to run in full screen.

First step completed!

I finally dedicated some time to try Gmap and got it working. At first it didn't work because I couldn't get Flight in pseudo full screen. Then I read the instructions again and realized I jumped the deactivate fullscreen in the graphics options menu.

Thanks again for the tip Jeroen!

Now on to Plan G Tutorial....

I agree, this tip by Jeroen should deserve a big round of applause from all the Flight flyers.

Can this be made a sticky? Lots of great info here and I imagine different updates of Flight will require some tweaks to this.

Thanks for the compliments, applause, etc. About the sticky: both tutorials can be found in the tutorial section too. And if things need updating, I know where to find these topics and you will see them at the top of the page again.

How about pinning a link to the Tutorials section itself?

Even I have trouble finding it sometime!

Good one! Why didn't I think of that myself. Will do that!

I can confirm that I too have the airplane icon always oriented in a NNE direction.

Does not matter if I start Gmap while in the air, disconnect and reconnect, it is always pointed that way - not a big deal, but if there is a fix for it in the future will be nice...

So what do you folks normally display your Gmap in - terrain, roads, satellite , or hybrid? Not sure I see any real difference between hybrid and satellite - at least not that I have yet noticed.

I purchased the sectionals and Navdata from Gmap. I prefer the navadat, because if gives me everything I need , airports, water airports, runways, frequencies, etc. For terrain clearance, I switch to the sectionals.

I may have the check out that Navdata, sounds pretty neat. Still have to progress into using Plan G as well.

I think the Navdata is what a must have. It makes GMap a lot more useful.

And I always use the default setting for the map: is that terrain...? Don't even know.

First, big ups to J van E for all his great contributions.

OK, re NNE direction, I find that when I start flying, it straightens out to show correct heading. Try turning your plane here and there to get its attention.

Hybrid WAS working until yesterday, now it is the same as satellite, so it's not just you.

Don't laugh, maybe it's due to the solar flare going on right now. messing up GPS.
