July 10, 201213 yr Author I would like to know how you run all these addons smoothly, and over 25 FPS, with a 1.73 GHZ CPU and that video card? One out of every three threads around here are from people with water cooled 5.0 GHZ rigs, with dual 680's, that can't get above 15 FPSS and have major stutters. The world wants to know! Dave Thanks to Word Not Allowed's tweaks, nVidia Inspector, a recent BIOS update, and Intel's Turbo Boost technology that clocks the processor up to 2.8GHz when needed, it runs pretty well. Granted, I have all traffic at zero so I'm sure that helps. Also, please note I said "averaging" and not "consistent". Big difference :) Sometimes it goes to 30, sometimes it goes to 15. No clue what it will do when REX is pumping in weather data. I'll find out in a few hours. I've attached a screen shot with REX clouds and water but no REX weather injection. FRAPS was showing 28 fps and went a bit lower than back to 28. Chris Magnus HR Manager Air Jamaica Virtual Airlines and Cargo (http://www.airjamaicavirtualairlinesandcargo.org)
July 10, 201213 yr Sounds like you know how to set up a computer. Wish other people would follow the advice found here at AVSIM. They would have the good results you had. Have fun Dave

Have fun Dave I was one of them. Took me 3 weeks to get it like this though and resulted in a busted desk caused by frustration when it was constantly introduced to my head :). Its all good now, well mostly good as I seem to have a busted REX install now. Ahh the fun of FSX and add-on's Chris Magnus HR Manager Air Jamaica Virtual Airlines and Cargo (http://www.airjamaicavirtualairlinesandcargo.org)
July 10, 201213 yr Are the GEX textures significantly better than the equivalent UTX textures? I think my initial statement was a bit misleading. Sorry for that. Since you have them both installed by now, you will likely have seen that option in GEX. I can only tell what the GUI states, which is some improvement on the night road textures for example. I've never really tested the difference to be honest, therefore I trust the devs in saying that the GEX 'patch' should be used for that part of UTX. By the way, nice reading about a good and still nicely performing outcome. On the REX stuff. Are we talking about REX or REX-E? With REX-E, the weather injection phase was reduced a lot, but still causes a slight drop in fps for some seconds. If you set the interval to some 30 minutes and also fix the altitude at/below which the injection gets postponed, your vital flight phases will stay free of all influences.

If REX-E means REX Essentials, that's what I'm using. The issue I'm having is that the REX textures for water and sky no longer change. A couple of searches indicate the potential culprit, that being the install order as I installed REX Essentials a couple of days ago and did UTX->GEX last night. I just uninstalled everything (GEX, UTX, REX Essentials) and and running through the install again (UTX->GEX->REX) as that seems to be the order that keeps popping up and based on my troubles, also seems to make sense. Lets see what happens. Chris Magnus HR Manager Air Jamaica Virtual Airlines and Cargo (http://www.airjamaicavirtualairlinesandcargo.org)
July 10, 201213 yr Author Ok, color me frustrated. I just re-installed FSX, UTX, GEX and REX Essentials and still have a major problem. FSX works fine with GEX and UTX and REX weather also seems to work fine. However, REX water textures are not working properly as lots of land has now appeared where coastline and water should be. See screenshots of Florida and Hawaii. All updates have been installed for each product and I have a support request in at REX. Has anyone ever experienced something like this? July 10, 201213 yr Just guessing, but I think you should look for support at UTX. Their setup tool is pretty clever and checks the installation, but you could still have some mixed up scenery library entries which cause the coastlines and things to come up way off. Although that picture of yours is new to me, I only know some 'digital' coastlines. From another guess, I would question if REX alone is able to trigger that sort of corruption with just some water textures. I could imagine the REX dev looking at the pictures just like I do now. :Hypnotized: Just in case. You are installing with the antivirus off and right clicking each installer with the option 'run as admin', yes? Either way, lets hope you can fix that thing soon.

I have a support topic on their forum so hopefully they will be able to help soon. I've gotten into the habit of running anything related to FSX using "run as admin". I hope it can be resolved soon as well. Chris Magnus HR Manager Air Jamaica Virtual Airlines and Cargo (http://www.airjamaicavirtualairlinesandcargo.org)
July 10, 201213 yr Author Just guessing, but I think you should look for support at UTX. Using your train of thought, I deactivated all the UT options in Settings\Scenery and voila, Florida, and every other locale I tried, returned to normal and REX water textures are now working. I'll post this on REX's support forum and see what they say as well as on Flight1's forum. Should be something simple. July 11, 201213 yr Author Ok, looks like everything works now after running a complete re-install (again) which also included completely removing the FSX folder and cleaning the registry. They are all getting along famously now. Big thanks to Jeff over at Flight1. I've had quite a few bad experiences with support from various add-on vendors but this was quite quite good. Looks like Flight1 will get more of my money Chris Magnus HR Manager Air Jamaica Virtual Airlines and Cargo (http://www.airjamaicavirtualairlinesandcargo.org)
July 11, 201213 yr Good news that is. Have fun exploring that detail of UTX. Looks like Flight1 will get more of my money Makes sense to me.

July 11, 201213 yr You may also wish to look at some photoreal scenery for South Florida. I have a pack that covers the Ft. Lauderdale area Hi Ray, What scenery do you have active for FL area? I have been interested in enhancing any part of FL. I have only Megascerny earth for FL and I am not using it. Their photosceneries are inconsitent in color and washed out...and they are aweful. I am thinking of Fly Tampa's Tampa airport ofcourse... Any good addon airport for Miami? (FSX version)? I thought I saw an add on for Miami city somewhere ... Here it is http://www.simflight...for-fsx-review/ Is this any good? Right now, Apart from Fly Tampa's Tampa airport, I got nothing,.... Please suggest the things that you have seen and feel it maybe worth looking at I need Florida to fly from there into the Juliana etc. Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

Lauderdale Intl airport by FSDT which I highly recommend. I have all of Florida from Sim Savvy at 50 cm which I also recommend. I have the Ft Lauderdale Revisited X which is real close the the Sim Savvy but slightly different, just a fairly small area. I don't have an addon for Miami Intl but there are two out there and both look good. I have some photoscenery for the Florida Keys that I don't recommend. A waste of money. You can search avsim.com reviews for all my scenery reviews. The reviews have my specific comments and lots of screenshots from various altitudes. When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
