Best Asian Stopover Airport

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a good Asian airport, initially just to fly some long haul from Brisbane. But in the long run when the 747 v2 arrives I want to recreate my trips to London via Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Tokyo.

What are the most up to date modern versions of these 4 airports that anyone owns and can fully recommend? Not as many options in Asia as the Europeans have... so I'm hoping for guidance.

Singapore I would prefer, but any of those 4 if the airport is really great I'll buy it.

Also any scenery for the surrounding city, although I am concerned about FPS more than the city tiny details

Thanks

Singapore is done by Imaginesim. It's okay and works and looks okay for me, but ImagineSim is notorious because of their lacking support. I nevr requested support, so I can't judge, but that's what I generally hear on the forums.

Hong Kong exists in two incarnations. FlyTampas excelently modeled the old Kai Tak, that's defintrely recommended. I think it's one of the best and most extensive sceneries I have, and even with all those buildings the performance is still really good. The new airport ahs been done by imagineSim. I don't have that one myself, but I tend to here good things about it.

For Tokyo there is nothing I think...

For Bangkok we so have a scenery which for me doesn't work that well. Performance isn't that good, although the modeling looks nice. I think it's by the Armi Project.

All sceneries can be found at Simmarket.

Thanks Kai Tak looks good, my only concern is if it will integrate well with AI, flight plans, ATC etc since its closed.

But the review looks so good and I think it would be alot of fun flying that approach.

Default AI doesn't fly to and from Kai Tak, but for example MyTraffic does. Kai Tak is completely filled on my setup. And indeed, it's an awesome approach. You'll probably fail to land your 747 the first two or three times, but once you master it, it's very satisfying to softly put that beast down on kai Tak's runway, following the turn so close before touch down.

To be honest, if you will like Hong Kong, you must try MHTG's runway 2 approach. I think it's mroe difficult than Hong Kong because the turn is much tighter (90 degree turn, then quickly touch down and break because of the really short runway).

I have ultimate traffic 2 so hopefully that will work, at worst case I would have to edit the schedules since it's customisable.

I don't have the 747 yet, but when it comes it will be a great fun challenge.

I'll check out MHTG as well, do you fly there with default scenery or an addon?

UT2 won't fly to Kai Tak as its based on current schedules. You'll have to do some editing I'm afraid...

As for MHTG, I use the LatinVFR version. It depicts the pre 2006 situation, where they duidn't remove the hill near the runway and didn't extend the runway. Taxi2gate made a good-looking scenery recently, but I don't have it myself, and I know LatinVFR is in the process of making a v2 of their old MHTG scenery. Both new LatinVFR and Taxi2Gate sceneries depict the current situation.

I does work in UT2. I have all of my VHHH traffic going to VHHX (code that is assigned to Kai Tak in FSX). With Powerpack, you have to add VHHX as an airport and then move all of your VHHH traffic to VHHX. It works great.

I only have VHHX operating but I have wanted to to figure out a scheme to have both of them running. I thought about making VHHX a domestic/GA airport and sending all international/cargo traffic to VHHH but I don't know if that's the best option for a two airport city.

Anyway, back to the original question.

WSSS by Imaginesim does the trick but I it is nothing special

Fly Tampa's Kai Tak is wonderful

Armi's Bangkok is rough on FPS

A smaller airport, VTSP Phuket by Asian Airport Sceneries, is pretty nice. It is available at Simmarket.

RKSI by Overland is also decent

A couple longer haul options:

VRMM from Aerosoft is a nice package but it is a little old

VIDP from Imaginesim looks very nice but I havn't bought it yet. It is their latest product

Not Asian but FSDT has a lot of great scenery for Hawaii.

Hence why I said he'll have to do some editing, for it doesn't work out of the box as you just confirmed.

So I would use the "Create new airport" button on the airport modification tab, then enter in the Lat/Long, airport altitude etc?

To move the traffic to the new airport, that is done in the standard UT2 not in the powerpack is that right?

FSDT.. Honululu International looks good, I have their GSX so I'm already registered there. Might take a look.

I have ImagineSim's VHHH and WSSS. I became an NGX addict, so I'm waiting for the 777 to start using those more often. ImagineSim keeps improving their products, and I think they did a good job with those two, and most recently with VIDP.

Narita would be good :) I guess it's going to be hard to build.

I purchased Kai Tak, it's amazing yet has no FPS hit. I don't know how but there is no AI there yet maybe that's why FPS is so good.

I also got Imaginesim, there is something funky going on with the meshes there. There is waves over the land and textures where there is water.

I have FS Global ultimate Asia and Oceania, so I'll try some flattening meshes when I get more time.

Or maybe I need to figure out how to exclude that airport area. If anyone knows how to create an exclude scenery file please point me to where to find the info.

Getting UT2 AI doesn't look straightforward so I'm going to have to put that off until I can RTFM and trial and error.

Do you have any mesh product running under them?

FSGenesis World Terrain Mesh - Asia. UT2 works fine with it.

I also highly recommend the new Macau by AA Sceneries. The approach into runway 16 is quite interesting.

UT2 is fine.

It's the Imaginesim airports that aren't. The edges of the airports are getting wet..

It might be my setup, I'll have to tweak the load orders and try some flattening. Or maybe I can delete FS global mesh for Singapore.

I've been there by Jetcat before - the Las Vegas of Asia :) more Casinos than the whole of Australia in one small spot.

I'll look at that in future but for me Macau was not long haul, I don't think there's flights there from oz
