After 3 years of being away from simming (and onto the golf course) I am really enjoying FSX after all these years. I just flew from EHAM into Frankfurt on the PMDG 747 (My alltime fav aircraft and no..even the 737NG still can't beat this one). I have photoscenery with autogens all the way through along wtih, NL2000, and West Germany 2010 and Aerosofts EHAM and EDDF. Landing here at early dawn with REX Essential on a 3 monitor setup with that EZDOK shake (I know, I have cursed you guys enough for the learning curve grief.. But your shake is awesome). I have never experienced FSX this good.

Sometimes with all the addons and what not, frames do drop to sub 20 but guess what, its still flyable. No Jerky, no pause, no sttutter.

I Need to acknowledge all the fine folks here at AVISM including Word Not Allowed and others for the tweeks and PC build and OC help.

A Big THANK YOU. :)

Wow. That's looking awesome, Manny. Do you use nl2000 photoscenery for NL?

For people using UTX also :

you can use the 3D lighting from UTX with all photoscenery without autogen.

Just place UTX lower than the photoscenery and make sure the nightlighting is enabled.

Thanks for confirming, Manny. REX also shows its beauty in your screenshot. I'm thinking of getting that as my first (payware) addon for fsx.

nice shot!how do you get the windows bar in full screen?

Looks great, Manny! I noticed you had not been around for a long time, so - welcome back.

Yeah - there's been some remarkable improvements, hasn't there. It's a combo of the SB proc, the new gpu's and software improvement, like Inspector, and then some good FS "discoveries" by a couple of guys. Even DX10 is being brought under control.

Thanks Paul. Yeah... I skipped the whole SB generation. HA Ha!

I have not gotten into the DX10 thing.. I am pretty clueless about what are the things I need for that. Does DX10 make FSX Look good (like in better) or does it increase performance and look good? And what are the things I need to set it up for DX10? Any links?

I noticed a DX10 preview button somewhere in FSX... IS that all I have to do ...or is there anything more?

DX10 is not quite there, yet, Manny - AA and shimmering are still stumbling blocks. There's a programmer - Steve Parsons (Stevejp) who is working his backside off, fixing things like flashing on runways and taxyways - done, opaque fences - done, progressive taxy markers - done, disappeared night objects - done. He's done a lot of work re aircraft lights, but Shockwave (A2A) already does it better. The mod is to one of the files in the ShadersHLSL folder. Just browse back a day or so for the DX10 thread, and here for his website. Very interesting. http://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com/2012/07/17/dx10-enhanced-aa/

Hi Paul,

Thanks.. I spent some time there onr Steve's blog and comments.I'll revisit and read some more later.

The summary of my understanding is this

1) FSX Has DX10 and to turn it on, click on DX10 preview and enjoy FSX in DX10 mode rather than in DX9

2) Now FSX in DX10 is nice an all but it has all these other issues

3) Steve has fixes for many if not for all the issues,

4) To apply Steve's fixes there is this file (which I have downloaded BTW) and run the install. Bat file that goes and removes a folder and adds some stuff. and fixes many of the issues

5) This is still WIP primarily the AA/Shimmering issues is stillin research mode by Steve,

6) Lights..you mentioned...not sure what the problem is here.. But if I have shockwave lights (Which I do), I should not have this issue?

Does that sums it all up or am I way off?

What happens it you just hit the "V" key in full screen, that will take a screen shot and place it in the default screen shot directory. Then you dont need to mess with the old "Print Screen" key function like in FS9.

My main issue with DX10 vs DX9 is that I can never get Vsync at 1/2 refresh rate to work in DX10 through NVidia Inspector.

A few have claimed it works just fine but I still notice micro stutters in DX10 even with 1/2 refresh rate settings.

If I switch back to DX9, I immediately notice how much smoother the sim is. I just can't figure it out.

I had no idea that I could hit V and get screen shot save somewhere,, and where would the defaut screen save directory be? If I hit V what would be the name of the file be and what image type would it be ... so I can search for it?

It will go to your My Docs/My Pictures/Flight Sim X File folder and they will be saved as .bmps. The file names are in a year/month/day and some other random number format. The image quality is fine and you can then pull the files from them and load it into an editor and save it as a .jpeg if you want since the .bmp file sizes are huge.

Overall, I think its a much easier way to go than using Print Screen and then having to load it into paint to save. You can fire off as many V keys as you want then go back later and pick out the best ones and delete the rest.
