Diamond DA40 released

I wish they had analog gauges instead of the default G1000 or provided in addition. G1000 means, It ought to be like the Flight1 ones where everything works exactly like the real G1000. I am not knocking on them. I am sure many of the FSXers could care less about this. So thats just my opinion or preference.

I used to fly the D10 a lot once. I din't like the stick in my crotch thingi. I wish it was to the sides. LOL :) But it was a good aircraft to fly and had to be careful with the wings when taxing ... It comes from their glider family I believe.

BTW..what is the scenery of that first photo in their website.. It looks like Orbx but which airport? Any ideas?

I bought it and had to fire off a support email within 15 minutes. The functionality of all the knobs on the panel operate in such a backwards and convoluted way that I can't quickly set the heading, course, and turn to freq's with the scroll wheel at all. For instance the scroll wheel on the heading knob controls the heading one way, and the course the opposite way.. Course knob is the same way.. Scroll one way will increase your course, the other way is adjusting the heading.. Radio dials are working in the same convoluted way.. We'll see what lionheart says but as it stands I won't fly it as it's just a puzzle operating the panel.

I love flying the Diamond DA20 C-1 Eclipse, stick and all. Much more fun for me than flying a yoke. It's like flying a WWII fighter....minus the aerobatic capability, the guns, and the speed lol. Wish I had started my training on the Eclipse, but half of my time so far is in a C172, which is probably for the best anyway.

In light of my love for the DA20, I really wish I could enjoy the flight model of the Aerosoft Katana 4X, but it just doesn't feel "right" to me for some reason. Can't really put my finger on what's wrong with it though.

Hope this Lionheart DA40 fills my desire to have a worthwhile Diamond in my hangar!

EDIT: styckx - well that's a bummer to hear. Hope that problem gets sorted quickly. Thanks for the heads-up, think I'll hold off until I hear more positive feedback.

I was about due to be bit by the early adopter bug. It happens but I'm not exactly happy about it either.. Finding more things.. The cockpit definitely needs a thorough once over.

Don't know much about the DA40 nor Lionheart. Looks interesting. How's their quality?

Ditto. I like GPSs but I like gauges.

Edit: Forget it. They opted to just refund me instead.

Well, while that's a nice customer service move, I'm rather disappointed that they didn't have any news for you about possibly fixing or revising those control oddities.

Time to look up some reviews for the IRIS DA40 XLS, I guess.

They were the first developers aircraft I ever had a single issue with the operations of after the hundreds of dollars worth of aircraft I have purchased ranging from basic stick and rudder planes to complex machines like the Aerosoft Katana and PMDG 4100. They said the wacky knob operations was coded right but the weird operations of it was a FSX issue they couldn't work around.. The lack of audio in the switches they couldn't explain as they said it worked just fine on their build.

It is what it is, appreciative they offered a refund because I was honestly expecting to eat the cost as that's just the risk you take when buying software and fully understand that.. I wish them luck in sales and their future endeavors.

Did they ever get their issues resolved? I noticed that Iris Simulations also has a DA40. How's that one? This plane looks like an excellent trainer if it's modeled right.

They did acknowledge both problems on their website eventually.. The one problem (no audio from the switches) that I got a "How did you install it? It works fine on our system" support response for was admittedly their fault in the first place. And the course/heading problem is apparently a core bug.. That I've never seen in any other aircraft. Won't do business with them again still. I'd much rather get support than the easy to go to "why don't we just refund you" way of handling issues.

Missing click sounds and interior sound effects bug has been found. For people who do

not have the latest LHC aircraft, we found a missing file that kept the sound from working,

but if you had the newest planes, the sound worked fine. Our team missed this via that

horrible mistake. The panel config has been modified. Simply download this file, drop it

in the Diamond DA40's panel folder, allowing it to overwrite the old one, and your sounds

should work fine. Sorry for the mistake.

The CRS knob, when being adjusted with mouse wheel will cause the 'HDG' adjustment

to move instead, but only with 'decrement' (left turning) input. Its a FS core bug,

something that is flawed in the gauge code. If it can be fixed in the near future, it will be

in an update.

The IRIS DA40 looks a lot better than this IMHO. Having owned the IRIS XLS since Christmas, I can say it's very nice. The G1000 is FSX default with some slight modifications, it is very superb visually. It flies like you'd think it should. With its nice long wings, it definitely likes to fly. It looks better than the Lionheart one by a mile, and I haven't noticed any odd button/knob issues at all. I got it on sale for $10, but I think it's only slightly overpriced as it is now. It's actually on sale right now for only $15. I'd pick it up. http://www.irissimulations.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=10&zenid=ug2jio97pektjss0afltoq0bt3

Have you noticed that the three propeller blade model, when you have the landing lights on while you are in the VC there is a light beam? It does not have it for the 2 bladed model. Any Fixes for that?

Thanks

I was quite excited, when I first read this message's headline, but finding out that it's just equipped with the G1000 is disappointing. At least I don't like the default G1000, or their modified version in the Kodiak. If there were at least the option of analogue gauges, I'd buy it, though, because the modelling looks great.
