26JUL12 - PMDG 777 for FSX: Let the previews begin!

By clouds I meant clouds like Cumulonimbus etc. You can get turbulence with not one cloud layer. When I get turbulence in the 763 depending on my load I generally come back to Mach.80-82 and it's generally quite stable! Unfortunately I don't subscribe to Navigraph or anything but for the AIRAC's so most charts are old and have no terrain data. At least where I fly generally! But for most Airports if you follow the STAR's altitude restrictions you're normally fine. It's also a safety factor, lets say you're flying over Greenland, it's nice to see the minimum altitude you can descend to in case of a technical error or a rapid rate of depressurisation. I done a flight into Calgary few weeks back, had to keep reminding myself on the AF Elevation ha.

Sorry, what I meant regarding the turbulence is that due to limitations with the weather engine in FS, you won't just experience the effects of a turbulent cloud inside the cloud, but for an entire area between certain altitudes. So deviating your flight based on a visual storm system, for example, you're seeing in FSX probably won't stop you from experiencing the exact same turbulence you'd have experienced if you had just gone straight into the middle of it. Plus, if you're using real world weather with frequent updates, it can become a real pain when something you're trying to avoid "magically" moves 50nm in another direction due to FS redrawing the clouds.

:LMAO: My god I can relate to how much that's happened.

Im going to be thinking about this new development all day now!

I've been thinking about it since March, lord help us!

Also, anyone noticed the screenshots are fairly blurry? I just looked side by side of the March shots and the others are crisp?

Active sky with a flight plan inserted into the program usually alleviates this problem, I never use the FSX weather engine.

This is probably down to the March screenshots being resized (IIRC) and these are in 1920x1080, so probably haven't been resized and are hence less crisp.

It helps, but it doesn't really solve the problem. When AS2012 injects weather, it doesn't tell clouds exactly where to go, so when they're redrawn it's impossible for a previous cloud to be placed exactly where it was prior to the update (except by chance).

With AS2012 I don't really have the redraw issue especially at my destination where the wx is already set with the current metar.

Yeah, I have that option set (to force destination weather) but I was primarily talking about weather deviation during the cruise. If the weather was bad enough at the destination that I should be deviating around it, I'd probably start looking at my alternates :P

Atmospheric effects..... I don't see this blurry issue your seeing on the screenshots on my monitor and its an HD LCD monitor. Perhaps time for you to get glasses? :-)

Haha, last time I put my 27" monitor on 1080p I started counting the pixels. :P

If he's comparing the recent 1080p shots to the March resized ones, they are going to look blurry.

Its called a joke, hence the smiley. I can see it being an issue at cruise but I haven't run into many tall TS clouds, not lucky enough lol

I know haha. Fly across the Atlantic, you're bound to. Just of the coast of Ireland there's normally a few ha.
