I found the same. The ground handling was really poor in XP, but once in the air, it had the "float" feeling I really liked, were FSX felt as if on rails. Here is another one for you. I had my throttle setting reversed in XP, so when I went to take off in the default 172, I started going BACKWARDS. Wow. Didnt know the C172 had a prop reverse! Also, about 1/3 of Seatak is slanted poorly, so much that buildings and trucks huver, and thats the demo area. So far many patches since beta, and they have yet to fix the demo area. Thats just poor showmanship all around. If your going to release something thats a demo for your $80 product, you better make sure it makes you look good, not bad.

I assume you have flown a rw aircraft to compare?

FSX is not right, flight is better, but Xplane With good add in aircraft is where it is at-if interested...

The default aircraft in Xplane are awful so don't judge from that anymore than you would FSX, fs9 or even flight defaults.

Well, I can only make mine the thoughts of many of you. For years I avoided nuying Xplane. Bought v8, soon before v9 was released. It was a stupid move because v9 was really better-looking. Then took months trying successive betas of v9, but never really made my mind about buying it.

Problem is that now that FLIGHT is gone I am left only with Condorsoaring (Silent Wings too, but Condor is better and I finally managed to install it in Windows7 64 bit without problems - the things FLIGHT did...). Also talk about ground handling and flying on rails sensation, and ELITE is the exponent of that :-(

I decided to give finally Xplane a try, and invest only o good add-on aircraft - Carenado and maybe those that Aerosoft might release in the future.... I'll let you know about my findings :-)

The F33 I find impossible to fly in XP10. When you pull the power back for cruise it starts dropping the right wing and to fly hands off requires almost maximum left aileron trim to correct. I know about torque effects but this seems far too much.

The default baron and king air exhibit similar behaviour.

Flight Gear looks very interesting and is free. This link for mountain flying looks like just the stuff that attracted me to Flight.

Will be giving it a go soon.

I tried that too, and will test v2.8 soon to be released :-) But I have Condor and SW - both more specific of course....

The 2.8 release candidate is available....was going to try that.

I've just bought the Cub, so next week will work through the Cub, Flight Gear and Condor...

Yep-seems to be a bug in Xplane-for now use full aileron trim to correct. Takeoffs and landings though are most satisfying.

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Yesterday (Friday) when I was at Airventure 2012 I was walking through one of the exhibitor buildings and I came areoss the aroflyFS booth. They had the sim running on a couple screens and some people playing. I started talking to the guy there about the fact that MSflight had been cancelled. He was bumbstruck, he had heard nothing about flights demise. He said that while it was "to bad" it could only help his sales in the long run. So, in a moument of weaknes I bought a copy. Do I have buyers remorse, sort of. I have played with it for a while today and found it somewhat lacking after being spoiled with flight. However I will continue to check it out as they will keep updating. It is interesting and comes with eight aircraft and I think it will only get better. Meinwhile I am finding my way around switzerland, I am able to run it with all the sliders maxed. But after that I just had to go back to Flight and do a sightseeing job in Hawaii to get my FIX. Oh, I also talked with the guy at the X-plane 10 booth, but that just does not do it for me. I will go back and revisit FSX again also, it is still on my drive,Sad to say but flight just had everthing I have been looking for for a long time. Throught I had found it.

I was looking at Aerofly FS when I discovered that Flight had been released. I had previously come to the conclusion that Flight would never live to see release. I have never been much of a fortune teller. lol

I weighed these 2 sims against each other and decided to go with Flight. That has worked out as I really enjoy Flight and I have no intention of abandoning it just because the development has stopped. I still use FSX a lot and it's development (by MS anyway) stopped a long time ago.

But I have been thinking about going ahead and also buying Aerofly FS as well for several weeks now. I probably would have by now but it seems kind of expensive. Amizon has it for $65 and I haven't found it listed anywhere else. I'll have to think long and hard before I'll pony up sixty five bucks for a product I really don't know all that much about. ???

I also agree with you fully regarding X-Plane. I bought version 5 (when it was still massive dollars) and later version 9 which I still have installed. I got 9 only because a friend had told me how much it had improved and I found it for $20 (10% what I paid for 5) "used" on Amazon. Between the 2 versions I doubt I have more than 10 hours of sim time with it. The interface is too awkward and the graphics are not to my tastes. I don't even know why I still have 9 on my system as I haven't used it in over 18 months. And before the world comes crashing down on me I want to point out that I do know that many people consider XP the sim to end all sims... and I respect that... but it does not work for me or maybe I don't work for it.... in any event XP and I don't coexist well.

I would like to know how your efforts with AFS are coming along and how it goes in the future.

Have a great day,

What is a prop reverse?

It seems you didnt read my post. In the default 172 in XP, I had my throttle reversed, and it sent the 172 in reverse. Thus, a prop reverse.

That is pretty simple to fix. In any case since you enjoyed the xwind effects in flight ( which personally I found way overdone) thought you might enjoy what I think is the most realistic landing experience on a sim right now..Guess you didn't read mine where I said it only happens with an add on like the f33. ;)
