Website Performance

Since yesterday evening, any attempts to use the AVSIM website results in extremely lengthy loading delays and several times where pages simply never come up at all.

I access the rest of the internet without any issues whatsoever, so I'm puzzled that I'm having trouble accessing AVSIM.

Any thoughts? Ideas?

I did encounter the same issue from my HOME IP, but from work it's fine. I had the NOC do intrusive testing last night with nothing bad noted. I can only conclude right now that there is certain paths down to the NOC. Otherwise the servers are also running fine.

Give it some time and the routes should recover. Not sure where the issue is.

I have had the same issue for the last two days. Couldn't find the right place to post an inquiry. I have tested my system, cleared cookies, and checked my u/l and d/l speeds. All is fine on my end.

Having a very difficult time getting into my forum.

Thanks.

Thank you.

As I've said earlier, I saw the same issue from home, but from this network at work it's flying. That tells me this is NOT a server-side issue, but something else in the WAN itself; either a route is down, NOC has a route they are missing, etc. But everything else is running clean. Just have to wait it out I am afraid.

When you start to see sporadic performance, the first thing you need to do is perform a TRACERT from your Command Prompt, as in; "tracert forum.avsim.net". That will list the number of hops and delays enroute to AVSIM and back. That will isolate the issue to either the path or the desitination. Here's an example:

Tracing route to forum.avsim.net [205.252.89.43]

over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 3 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.1.1

2 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms 192.168.2.1

3 42 ms 41 ms 41 ms va-71-48-136-1.dhcp.embarqhsd.net [71.48.136.1]

4 41 ms 41 ms 41 ms va-71-0-83-69.dyn.embarqhsd.net [71.0.83.69]

5 58 ms 57 ms 58 ms 208-110-248-237.centurylink.net [208.110.248.237]

6 51 ms 51 ms 50 ms dcx2-edge-01.inet.qwest.net [65.113.64.197]

9 59 ms 58 ms 58 ms TenGE9-1.br01.ash01.pccwbtn.net [63.216.0.197]

10 59 ms 58 ms 57 ms purple.servers.avsim.net [205.252.89.43]

Trace complete.

This was just done on the forums. Note Item 8 at 262 ms... That is Qwest-Inet-8. The key figure in here however, is the 59 millisecond response time of the forum server itself. In this instance, we are not the reason for the delay.

Wow, you have a monkey's finger somewhere in the pipe at Qwest...

Here's a tracert from my office here in Hammond, IN:

I did the tracer several times, and most of my times up through 9 were in the 40+ms range with the exception of 2 which timed out each time. Perhaps this will help. Of course I don't know what server 2 is as all I get is a series of asterisks and then the word "timed out".

I'll try to post a pic as soon as I can u/l the image to Photobucket.

Thank you.

but again those are going to be routers in the world and NOT controlled by AVSIM. The only ones we can affect would say "PCCW" on them.

Just have to wait till whatever network is affected checks their gear. :)

And FYI, 40+ is NOT bad at all in terms of ping reply from a router on a WAN.

I'm having the same problem as the OP. This is the first time I've been able (or had enough patience) to get into the forum to find out what is happening. My trace result was okay. I can't attach it because I can't access more reply options.

This is a bit too technical for met, but since I've been experiencing the same sluggish performance with Avsim in the past 48 hours I thought I'd post it anyways, maybe it's helpful.

Cheers,

Pete

At this time everything's all caught up and at full speed. That should be the end of this one. Thanks to John for his quick efforts!
