September 20, 201213 yr Maybe better than pmdg since the A-10 and KA-50 are not held back due to FSX limitations. At present state, DCSW is more limited that FSX for 3rd party developers. Too many locked and hardcoded things still, but they are working at that side of sim. yep, unfortunately I don't even know if PMDG model to the depth that DCS do!! The A10 requires almost a proper rating just to get the thing to start!! Actually, there are many things done improperly in DCS. Anyway, its a great simulator. ahh yes I can just imagine it....on approach to YSSY, established on the Rwy 34L ILS...suddenly my wing comes off and I plummet towards the water...as the swell subsides, the air is shaken by a 15 y/o in an F15 who had snuck in and decided to test one of his Aim-9 sidewinders on an unarmed commercial jetliner. Mil and civ sims don't really mix. Server can lock all weapons and let people to just fly without risk of being intercepted by crazy F15 Lj. September 20, 201213 yr Author If anyone is interested in DCS: World, you can download it for free and fly an SU-25 ground attack aircraft. The model (system, flight and virtual cockpit) are not representative of the payware modules though; they're far better. At present state, DCSW is more limited that FSX for 3rd party developers. Too many locked and hardcoded things still, but they are working at that side of sim. Not sure about locked, but yes there is no SDK at this point so everything has to be worked from the ground up. I'm a realist, DCS will take time to mature, even more so for heavies to have their place (mediums such as C-130s running tactical air lift would be fun though, now that resources are coming into play). It would be great to see a heavies developer with the ability of PMDG contributing in the future though. Jordan Forrest
September 20, 201213 yr i have DCS World with their A-10 module and it's amazing. Graphics are awesome, planes are super detailed and smooth fast FPS. The HDR Lighting, Special Effects, AI, Water Textures, Scenery are all Beautiful.
September 20, 201213 yr DCS is amazing. It's actually hard to get back into FSX once you play it. Just flying around without ammo is fun in the A10 and BS. The flight model is so far in advance than FSX. The ground handling too, landing characteristics etc etc. The effects are amazing, heat blur, strobe lights reflections, formation lights, beacon light reflections, weather, overcast, sound.. Landing in the evening into an overcast sky and popping out at 200ft into a foggy runway...amazing. The video's above show it all, notice the doppler effect of the GAU at 4mins on the 2nd vid...attention to detail is amazing. I hope to get back in to FSX when the DC6 comes out. It's taken me twice as long to master the A10C than the PMDG 737 did, the detail is mind boggling. -Iain Watson-

Seeing what PMDG can do with FSX makes anything they'd create for DCS a tantilising prospect. Military settings aren't their scene, but maybe with a more mature DCS environment and the demand for their input... :Praying: Jordan Forrest
September 29, 201213 yr Commercial Member If DCS actually modeled the whole earth ala what FSX has I'm certain we'd look into it - several of us here play DCS A-10C and Black Shark 2 and I for one would absolutely love to have that kind of graphics and simulation engine for us to work with... My guess is that this will not be happening any time soon though considering it's been the one small map for years, still no release of the Las Vegas/Nellis area etc. Doing the whole world's scenery would take forever at the current rate there. September 30, 201213 yr I for one think worldwide photo-scenery should be licensed some how and compressed for use in DCS, since we are seeing a rising popularity for photo-scenery I think it would be an easy way to expand DCS World. Alex

Agree. Without the whole world modeled or at least the whole Europe, flying DCS with commercial jet is a no go for me! Regards, Martin Martinov / VATSIM 1207931
October 3, 201213 yr It would be interesting if they brought in large bombers such as B-52 or Bear. Also would be cool to see them simulate the 60s cold war era tech...cold war turned hot. Hi Tabs, Sorry for the (almost) thread necromancy, but I am told that the reason for the delay with scenery is actually a result of a new multicore optimised rendering engine they're developing. I believe new scenery will speed up significantly once the engine is finished (which will be soon). PMDG + the efficiency and technology behind the dcs engine....I think FSX would be uninstalled en-masse.....For the love of all that is good, you have to do it!!!
December 26, 201213 yr FSX = civvi DCS = Military Let's keep it as that. Let's not do what DayZ did to the Arma community and bum it with idiots. Many years I was on Arma including when I was in the British Army and its ruined by one simple MOD, WAY TO GO!!!!

December 27, 201213 yr Yeah and now Arma III is delayed and Day-Z is being worked on for a standalone release. :( However I am interested in the potential for DCS to expand (but keep it's core). Jay Vorkapic
December 27, 201213 yr Yeah and now Arma III is delayed and Day-Z is being worked on for a standalone release. :( Good, the sooner they leave the Arma community the better. ArmA 3 is delayed for a certain reason (kinda funny but not!) DayZ did f*** all for ArmA apart from drive many of the decent oldie members away. Sure it brought in a load of cash but ArmA 3 was already taking shape before DayZ, I add this in because dumb DayZ players think there little hero's.
December 27, 201213 yr If DCS made the whole world then it would be perfect but FSX is very buggy to work with and the clouds are not even full 3D clouds among other problems like snow falling as fast as hail. Also the default landscape in DCS is far superior with less strain on the PC. That's why we have add on scenery and REX Thanks, Kevin L
