September 19, 201213 yr Hi. This was going to be short & sweet but I got carried away... For small strips and just looking around, the RealAir C172. Why? Because the rudder works. For longer distance, cross country, Carenado's Piper Seneca. Why? Because I like twin engined props and it has a really nice interior. Also, the rudder almost works... It's the current transport on a long-term (2½ years so far) round-the-world flight. For fun, RealAir's SF260. Why. Cos it's fun of course, and offers almost unobstructed visibility. It's easy to focus too heavily on instruments or to allow an autopilot to take over but this one really encourages VFR flight. Oh, and the rudder works. (Notice a theme here?) Edit: @ Cloudswimmer. I have a Rutan in the collection too and would make much greater use of it but it has a non-functional VC. I find that very off-putting as 2-d panels just don't look right. I suppose a good VC is another reason for choosing a particular plane. In Air Hauler (sometimes FS9's raison d'être, for me), Filght1's Cessna C441. Why? Because I bought it by mistake and my company can't afford Rick Piper's HS748 yet: a fully functional twin turbo-prop would be nice (even mostly functional...). Still, it does a good job of carrying stuff around Europe, North Africa and the Middle East and I can go and put the kettle on while it flies itself. That's almost blasphemous isn't it? I also have a Lancaster which occasionally is used to annoy the neighbours. Sound is surely a big part of the immersivity. Especially for the neighbours. When I fancy a holiday I have a Riva Aquarama, I think it was made by Hama, currently moored at Terrasini on Sicily though that doesn't fly unless things go horribly wrong... Summer's ending here and I may take it south by easy stages, to Djibouti for the winter. I suppose like Richard Bach once felt about potential life-partners, the ideal is a mixture of a lot of different aircraft; different parts to suit different moods. Cheers, D

September 20, 201213 yr Hi, I´m hopelessly nostalgic, and fly mainly aircraft from the 60´es. The decade means a lot to me; I was born there, and the time gave us massive developments in technology. Go to any international airport in 1965, and you would find a wonderful mixture of piston engines, turboprop, and turbojet propelled aircraft. So it was the time when operators finally went from piston to jet propelled aircraft. Travel times were cut in half. And by the end of the decade, travel time was cut in half again by the Concorde. The decade also gave us the Mach-3 SR-71, Apollo and Lunar landings. The 747 was developed there, and gave us a new understanding of how big a flyable airplane can be. Best Regards, Anders
