September 19, 201213 yr Hey guys, just a couple of quick questions... I want to hook up a second computer that I have (2.2Ghz AMD) and use it for diplaying Google earth, charts and FS Commander via 2 Dell 17" monitors. I want to network it to my FSX dedicated rig... firstly, do I need a particular piece of software eg FS Wideview or similar, or can I do this through Windows? Also, will I run into any issues by having this second PC running XP32bit while my FSX rig runs Win7 64bit? Thanks fellas... September 19, 201213 yr That is a really good idea. I run a second PC on my home net work and use it for FSinn, Teamspeak, Vatspy, Google Earth and web browsing for charts etc etc. It is a Vista 32 bit PC and it works fine with my FSX Win7 64 bit. I don't need any special software to run these applications but i think you will need WideFS to run FSCommander though and to run WideFs you need the paid version of FSUIPC. I hope this info can help you. Michael Gadeberg

September 19, 201213 yr HI Howard, I reckon running your extra programs such as FSC,FSInn AS2012 & TOPCAT is a great idea......why? Cause that's what I have done and it works well! Set up the folder sharing between the computers and install WideClient on the client computer and away you go. FSC uses WideFS with AS2012 and FSInn utilizing Simconnect. September 19, 201213 yr And a good way of reducing or eliminating OOms by freeing up rescources on the sim computer. It can be tricky getting WinXP talking to Win7 but it can be done. I gave up and purchased another Win7 for my network computers. First and most complicated task is setting up the network and sharing the proper folders. Plenty of info by Googling that subject. It depends on what software your running on the client computer. Some software, such as AS2012 requires Simconnect and that's a whole subject in itself. Cross the road when you get there. Been doing this for numerous yrs. Activated version of FSUIPC on server computer (WideFS server is automatically installed with the registered verson). You will have to purchase WideFS to activate it. WideFS client on the client computer ( Create a seperate folder on your main drive for it. Put it there and add a shortcut to the .exe on the desktop) My client computer programs: FSCommander, AS2012, FSbuild, SB4, VA ACAR systems, Firefox, email clients, AI Smooth, Air Hauler and more. Couldnt imagine all theses apps running on the sim computer without VAS and other performance issues. No UAC and no @#$#@# Anti virus on my sim computer either!
September 19, 201213 yr Author Cheers Rendi, can I assume that if I want to run additional instruments then I can also use WideFS? September 19, 201213 yr Instruments just depend on the programming. If they were designed with the intention of running in a network they can. Most are not, like panel gauges. Anything that reads simconnect or FSUIPC generally can be run on a client. Simaconnect is a little more complicated as the app must have the proper programming and files. I found a few but not many that will. Its like a Project Magenta for home built cockpits even more elaborate than mine.

September 20, 201213 yr Hi Andrew, OK, so I have the full version of FSUIPC, are you saying the only other thing I need is WideFS? Yep, the rest use simconnect. Andrew Dixon"If common sense was compulsory everyone would have it but I am afraid this is not the case"
September 20, 201213 yr Author Thanks matey, no doubt when I get a little closer to setting up this second PC I'll be sourcing more help! HowardMSI Mag B650 Tomahawk MB, Ryzen7-7800X3D CPU@5ghz, Arctic AIO II 360 cooler, Nvidia RTX4090 GPU, 32gb DDR5@6000Mhz, SSD/2Tb+SSD/500Gb+OS, Corsair 1000W PSU, LG Ultragear 48"4K, MFG Crosswinds, TQ6 Throttle, Fulcrum One YokeMy FlightSim YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@skyhigh776
September 23, 201213 yr Make sure you map your fsx drive not just share it or FSCommander won't be able to build its database in the second machine correctly. Randy Swofford
June 20, 201312 yr I don't want to start another thread about this, so i will ask here about only thing about i didn't found to much so far... I did exactly the same thing, moved all my external applications to second PC. Everything works and connecting without problems via SimConnect and WideFS. But i found one thing in Pete's D. manual about assigning specific IP addresses to PCs, which helps "reduce periodic but regular stutters in Flight Simulator, caused by the Network drivers querying the Network to get an address assigned". Do you know anything about this? I can assign specific IP addresses... I don't have separate configured network, just "homegroup". Should i configure network for this? I'm tring to find best option, what worked best for you? Zeljko Budovic
