Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog: to buy or not buy, info wanted pls

Featured Replies

If it were me, I'd have had it winging its way back to Amazon about an hour after getting off the phone. No way I'd be trying to patch together a brand-new $500 controller with a hot glue gun.

Not a very good showing for Guillemot/Thrustmaster. That's going to temper my usually enthusiastic recommendations for their stuff.

I don't blame Thrustmaster or Amazon at all....

I bought it "Used, in excellent condition" from an Amazon seller, and got it for £240.. Was ready to send it back to the seller but I soooo desperately wanted to keep it and get it working...

Good news is, it was just the silver bracket that holds the DIN plug up, the bracket had let go of the din plug and I managed to super-glue the bracket back onto the din plug, give it a squeeze with pliers and its rock solid, plugged it in and bingo, all working perfectly!

So I saved £120 on a new one, and got to keep it, so I'm chuffed really..

Thrustmaster were VERY quick to help me, so don't let this be a bad reflection on them guys, if anything, without their quick help, it would be on its way back to Amazon tomorrow :-)

Now to figure out how to configure the thing in FSUIPC..

Richard;

OK, thanks for "the rest of the story." It sure sounded harsh that TM wouldn't offer to fix it, but given it was a used unit, it all makes sense now.

Anyway, glad you've finally got it working--you're really going to like flying with it. After I got it put in I spent the rest of the day and evening flying patterns and carrier traps in the T-38 and VRS Superbug. The tricked-out TM Cougar I've been using since 2005 has been a good stick, but the Warthog really is a step up. And FSUIPC setup is very easy.

Cheers

We can expect a used item to have some sort of malfunction and your stick was one of the unfortunate ones, but we are glad it got sorted out now. The problem you posted here may even help others in the future.

We hope to get your feedback as a warty user as well, good luck.

Welcome to the Hog club Richard  BTW, what a low life to sell something in 'excellent condition' that was obviously faulty.

To be honest I think its designed to push in just in case someone tries to force the joystick onto the base the wrong way around, at least it stops them completely ruining the plug and socket.

Cheers, Andy.

you got very good service considering your a second owner. Most support tickets require original purchase details.

That's an excellent point, I could easily see some folk doing that...

Indeed, that's why I wanted to make sure I came back to let you know... Sadly people are quick to bash and slow to praise, so my hats off to Guillemot or whatever they are called, and I wrote to the ebay seller yesterday to ask them "How much of a refund are they going to give me for the hassle I've had" and was offer a 20% refund for my troubles...

I would say, that, my friends, is a bloomin RESULT! :P:P:P

A working Warthog, which is immaculately clean, it really doesn't look used at all, for £192! WOW

They said they do have other units available too if anybody is thinking about getting one and wants to save a load of dosh.. Mine was £240

So, tonight is hopefully FSUIPC night and Accufeel 2 :-)

Does anybody have a diagram of the Warthog, something like a Powerpoint black and white diagram at all?

Been looking for one for hours but no luck...

i am on buying a desktop now but will def. buy the warty as well.

Here are some shots from the Thrustmaster manual without any annotations. I print these out for taking notes, design, and testing. When finalized, use Paint or similar to label a set with desired assignments. The Thrustmaster manual has these drawings with the switch numbers on them.

Working on MSFS 2024 versions.

Thanks Henry, I managed to find some nice colour photos to use and have stuck them together into a Powerpoint labelling all the controls with the FSUIPC identifiers..

Going to start a new thread for Hotas config queries...
