September 26, 201213 yr I highly recommend the B744X. It's the first PMDG aircraft I purchased and first complex aircraft I had. At first it was quite daunting to learn it but later on I got the NGX and learnt both simultaneously as I found them to be somewhat similar in terms of procedures. So if you know the NGX you should have no problems with the B744. I still take it out quite regularly and having the LDS 767 as well which is excellent I still prefer the B744 for the long hauls. Hand-flying your approaches in it are also a lot of fun as it's a BEAST to handle! Michael R
September 26, 201213 yr who says the 737 cant do long hauls. I will fly the upcoming CTP with the 737 from KPHL to EGLL. I've tried it twice - about 3000nm, 6-7 hours flight, leaves you with about 6t of fuel. I even entered mach .8 forr cruise speed. So get it i dont think that anybody who has bought the NGX regrets it... regards Chris How are you going to get back to KPHL? Westbound flights are encountering strong headwinds recently. September 26, 201213 yr Chris How are you going to get back to KPHL? Westbound flights are encountering strong headwinds recently. Michael Cubine Hell yeah.. I had 120 knots headwind on monday when i flew EDDF-KORD with the MD11.... Was not cool.. the flight took 9 and a half hours... Is the Leveld 767 VC so much "older" than the 747 one? Because i´m thinking of buying it but the vc holds me back a bit... regards, Alexander Marx
September 26, 201213 yr Chris How are you going to get back to KPHL? Westbound flights are encountering strong headwinds recently. Michael Cubine the same way i got there in the first place: by plane! option 1: just the reverse route. Looking at Flightaware average route time for KPHL to EGLL was about 6,5 hours - the reverse route was about 7,5 hours, so 1 hour longer. The 737 flys slower, so lets say the way back will last 1,5-2 hours longer. The average fuel burn is about 2.2 t/h, so my landing fuel will be 3,5-4,5t lower = 2-4 t landing fuel - enough to get the job done. option 2: refuel stop in KBIF, or somewhere along the way (maybe CYHZ or KBOS) option 3: i tell my "Virtual copilot" to take it back alone - he is incredble fast - i tell him to take the plane somewhere and within seconds the plane is there So where is the problem? Taking the 737 across the pacific might be a problem, but the pond shouldn't be a (real) problem... Regards, Chris Volle i7700k @ 4,7, 32gb ram, Win10, MSI GTX1070.
September 27, 201213 yr Is the Leveld 767 VC so much "older" than the 747 one? Because i´m thinking of buying it but the vc holds me back a bit... I thought that too, but I never had any regret towards the purchase. Its systems are incredible, and you can download a cockpit texture upgrade. The graphics are quite a bit older than the PMDG 744 though. But if you really want good graphics and you don't mind a step down in systems quality, go for the CS 767. Thanks, Kevin L
September 27, 201213 yr So where is the problem? Chris What was the payload? I might try Kennedy-Gatwick. Thanks Michael Michael Cubine
September 27, 201213 yr Chris What was the payload? I might try Kennedy-Gatwick. Thanks Michael ZFW: 46.5t ( 102514lbs) Just monitor your flight/fuel/fuel rate closely, have your charts at hand and be always ready to go to an alternate (should be EINN, BIKF, BGBW, CYYR, CYQX and the following US/Canadian airports along the coast depending on your NAT). Have fun and report your experience! Regards, Chris Volle i7700k @ 4,7, 32gb ram, Win10, MSI GTX1070.
September 29, 201213 yr Have fun and report your experience! Chris Made it to Gatwick with 12900 lbs of fuel on board. Average tailwind was about 40 knots. Payload was half full. Cost Index of 50. Climbed to FL360 and did step climbs to FL380 and FL400. I will probably try Gatwick-Kennedy tomorrow. Let you know what happens. Mike Michael Cubine
September 29, 201213 yr Maybe you should wait as the price for any of the PMDG is high by comparison (you do get what you pay for) and see what kind of reviews the V2 747 and 777 receive. There are rumors about 2D cockpits not being included in upcoming planes if this is a sticking point, as it would be w/ me. I fly only FS9 and and do not fly Virtual cockpits. I will say the PMDG MD-11 is by far a much more advanced sim as compared to the 747. If you don't fly 2D then by all means I would wait for the upcoming products as they will I am sure meet your expectations. The LDS 767 although was a good acrft in it's day, systems wise is still good, I am afraid it is outdated for looks.....this is one reason I have put mine in the bone yard, and I probably will not bring it back. When the Ifly 737 and MD-11 PMDG came out, the standards for me went way up and thus my older planes don't fly much anymore. Just my thoughts....
September 29, 201213 yr You can find 747V1 Aerosoft Box version on Amazon for about 30USD. I think the MD11 Aerosoft Box is around 50USD. Both are very nice still. The 747v1 is still the best 747 simulation available. The MD-11 is a newer product, thus is improved in a lot of areas, such as VC graphics, night lighting...etc. The MD is also a much different flying experience too. While my favorite would be the 747, the MD has grown on me a lot. The MD is much more automated than the 747, making overnight trips easier with it's auto-step climb feature. September 30, 201213 yr Have fun and report your experience! Chris Did the Gatwick-Kennedy today. Same weight and cost index as the eastbound flight. I did one step climb from FL370 to FL390. Landed a KJFK with 6900 lbs of fuel. I think I was about 1000 lbs short of being full of fuel on the eastbound flight so it would have been 13900 on landing at Gatwick had the tanks been full when I left Kennedy. Average headwind was 41 knots. Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
