October 19, 201213 yr Did some more flying today, a real time flight from Phoenix to Salt Lake (I landed near Ogden). I find that lowering my fps lock to 18 helps offset the performance hit of this aircraft, which enables Tileproxy to stay caught up even when I am cruising at 280kts. From the flight levels, I can't tell the difference between 18 fps and my normal lock of 30 fps. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the screenshots! Regards, John
October 19, 201213 yr Cactus, nice pictures ! Btw, I'd like to give tileproxy a go.is there a good guide for tileproxy (for dummies)? Thanks
October 19, 201213 yr Super shots. Ouch, is this plane that bad fps wise? :( ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
October 20, 201213 yr Super shots. Ouch, is this plane that bad fps wise? :( My system is several years old, so I can't compare my results to a current system--I think even the lowest end systems sold today outpace mine. That said, if I am using FSX default scenery, the fps isn't that bad. It's zero (off of the 30 I leave my settings set as) at cruise, and maybe 5-7 fps off of that at takeoff. My tileproxy settings are very agressive--I load 1m textures out to about thirty miles. So FSX is going to want a lot of bandwidth to keep up. Lowering my framerate to 18 isn't that bad for this aircraft. Since much of its flights are at FL200 and above, you just can't discern a difference between 18fps and 30 when looking out at the ground. On final, 18fps doesn't really bother me. So, when I fly this aircraft, I drop my fps down and when I fly all the others I like to fly, I keep them at 30. John
October 20, 201213 yr Looks like you are enjoying the King there John, she looks good with the Tileproxy scenery, excellent shots!! I have a laptop, and would like to get this aircraft. (I will be upgrading by a lot very soon, but I still need at least one little aircraft to look forward to at Christmas, and a bit of a break while I'm building the rig!) (I will be upgrading by a lot very soon, but I still need at least one little aircraft to look forward to at Christmas, and a bit of a break while I'm building the rig!) I have an Intel Quad/8200 running at its default 2.33 MHZ. 8GB Ram, and an Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT with 1GB Ram. My O/S is Vista 64.
October 20, 201213 yr Alright, thanks, it seems as though my current rig is a bit better than that, so hopefully I'll be okay in the interm. ORBX- the way to go Sincerely, John McGee
October 20, 201213 yr Cactus, nice pictures ! Btw, I'd like to give tileproxy a go.is there a good guide for tileproxy (for dummies)? Thanks Here is a link to the site that helped me get started with Tileproxy: http://www.edtruthan.com/tileproxy/tutorial/ After I'd been using Tileproxy for a couple of months, I arrived at my current settings. Those settings, combined with keeping my vis. locked to 30 miles, result in what you see in these screenshots. A very realistic photoreal experience. As I mention above, the fps lock sometimes has to be adjusted to keep the textures clear and sharp--depends on the aircraft and the bandwith the aircraft requires. Fortunately for me, so far the King Air is the only aircraft that requires the fps lock tweak. Not entirely sure why the King Air hits performance a bit but it is probably due to the number of active, clickable controls in the VC. Good news is I've done several Tileproxy flights with the King Air since lowering my fps lock and I couldn't be happier. I'd say I've put close to two thousand miles on the King Air already. If you do get started using Tileproxy and want my proxyuser.ini, just send me a PM and I'll be glad to share it with you. Regards, John
