X-Plane 10 New Zealand Pro - PREVIEW

Featured Replies

I wanted to share some first preview screenshots of my upcoming “X-Plane 10 New Zealand Pro” scenery. All screenshots come in pairs, with before-after comparison (I recommend to browse trough them one-by-one at picasa, as this way you should see the differences more easily)… so you can see for yourself what its (and what its not) all about by following this link:

(some of the pictures have 3rd party scenery included, which I have named in the picture captions … all of those you can download freely here at the org)

Looking good this! Very nice to see quality stuff being made for XP10, it really needs it.

Amazing transformation. I'm sure NZ will become a popular place to fly,

Well, looks like I'll have to find my installation disks and add NZ to my HDD...great work!

A,mazing! I have never had any flights in New Zeland, but with this scenery, that should change pretty fast!!

Nice !!!!!! You are doing amazing work for the XPX community !!

A few questions. Any plans for the North America ? Is this going to be for sale or a freebie ? And what is the ETA ?

Hi Strider ... well, you have just revealed, that you didn't read the text on my site (the second link)

ETA is November or December, Price is "donation ware" ...

And for North America. Guys, this is not so much a question if I could do it, but much more the question if there is any other country on the earth, which gives away as detailed raw geo data as the NZ government does (because, that stuff is fantastic - though , not even that is perfect) . I think many out there don't realize, that I DO NOT do all of this by hand. Far from it ... I am a IT engineer and a fan of solutions, where big data can be transformed by clever scripts into something other (and beautiful). I am not a big fan of doing endless, tedious work manually  ... Thats why I usually only do scenery which has a good data basis and can be processed algorithmically (thats exactly what I did with the Global Scenery for XP10 all the time ... while the textures/artwork are done by other, more talented guys  )

I like to refer to it as ... mind-numbing. But it does keep me out of trouble, for the most part!?! B)

If North America doesn't have enough data for this, Imagine Brazil :( Never to be reproduced as beautiful as this.

Have you thought about using an algorithm to fix the suburban cities in XPX ? We need an algorithm to designate arias of the city as industrial, commercial, residential, etc.....

This will definitely be looked at after release. Keep up the good work!

This is already there! At least for Europe and USA we have more or less acceptable data about - very vague - city density and industrial zones. AND it is encoded in the DSFs already ... but in most parts its because of the lack of enough autogen artwork, that it got assigned some - uhm - generic stuff (usually the residential buildings). Ben Supnik had an extensive article on this in his Blog months ago:

http://developer.x-plane.com/2012/03/when-are-we-going-to-get-high-the-plan-for-cities/

Now, for a long time, not much has happened (ok, roads received some fix - but not the autogen) ... but Ben pointed out, that very likely in the 10.20 run, there will be some improvements with the autogen (in many places, having better artwork diversity will help a lot - because the information is already encoded in the DSFs). And I am quite confident that this will happen B)

WOW, I'm looking forward for this stuff. Andras, you are the king! :Applause:

  • 5 weeks later...

Lovely! I too am looking forward to NZ - any news Andras?

I guess you're seeing how it goes with 10.2x before releasing?

As a Kiwi I like this effort but I find the sims graphics to be somewhat lacking in general at this stage.
