October 26, 201213 yr Hey all, I have been running a core i5 760 which won't OC past 3.4ghz due to a bad mobo. I have just bought a 2500k and decent mobo with the aim of OCing to 4.4ghz...but I've realised the IB chips are out. Have I just bought a slow piece of tech or will the SB 2500k do me for some time? Thanks.
October 26, 201213 yr Hello My i5 [email protected] Ghz does me just fine, I lock at 30fps and get that, pretty much with any aircraft that I choose to run. I do however run everything else networked, AS2012, FSCommander, Radar Contact ect. And 4.6 is an easy OC with these chips, enjoy glyn
October 26, 201213 yr Quite a lot of people here have the same chip as you Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry. October 26, 201213 yr You have a great CPU for FSX. It seems there is always something new available or on the horizon making it difficult to pull the trigger at anytime Brad Rich
October 26, 201213 yr I have the i5 2500k and I love it. It seems there is always something new available or on the horizon making it difficult to pull the trigger at anytime Exactly. Dave Wegner - Don't be afraid of common sense or the search function.
October 26, 201213 yr It is a great chip, particuarly it's overclockability! Besides, I've heard that the IB chip is no better and not so hot for OCing. October 26, 201213 yr I have the 2500K and have it clocked to 4.8ghz on liquid cooling, its a really good chip for FSX. Bryan Richards "People depend so much on automation that they forget how to get the automation to work." B.W.
October 27, 201213 yr It is a great chip, particuarly it's overclockability! Besides, I've heard that the IB chip is no better and not so hot for OCing. True, the IB chip runs hotter and thats why it won't go as far as Sandy Bridge, but to jump from an i5 2500k to the latest IB would be madness anyway, or a waste of money in other terms as what you gain doesn't justify the cost of getting it. The reason why IB runs hotter isn't in the chip design, but another cheepo move by Intel, the heatspreader or the cover on the CPU isn't soldered on like the older chips and Sandy Bridge is, it is actually stuck on there with glue around the edges and some thermal paste in the middle. This means that the heat have to travel through another layer with loss, and it doesn't transfer nearly as fast as it does on a Sandy Bridge, and this is why the temps are higher and also why you will hit a wall earlier. The good news of this is that if you are techy enough, you can easily strip off the heatspreader entiely and run the cooler directly in touch with the core. The dangers is loss of warranty and if you don't manage the cooler pressure you put on it, you can crush the CPU core, much like you could on the old socket A AMD chips back in the day.
October 27, 201213 yr If I were building my rig today, i would still go SB. Until Intel comes out with something better than IB, i'm staying with what i've got, in fact if i were to do it over i would go with your 2500k, because i only use for FSX which doesn't need HT that i payed an extra $100 for. October 28, 201213 yr Commercial Member 2500K is arguably still the better chip for FSX - it overclocks higher than the equivalent Ivy Bridge 3570K. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
October 28, 201213 yr As you have rightly guessed, you have bought a load of rubbish which is absoluty useless for FSX, and just about anything else. I feel really badly for you and since I have just come into a few extras dollars and am feeling really generous, I will help you out by taking them off your hands for $50. You pay postage since I am probably going to bin them anyway. No need to thank me. Paul Smith.
