FS9 traffic in FSX

Featured Replies

Is it real that including in FSX, AI traffic files in FS9 format or not converted to FSX format, should void all native or converted traffic ?

Thanks

Jorge Soldano

Never heard of that before. FSX has backwards compatibility for fs9 formats but not for DX10. So, if you enable DX10 Preview, you will have issues unless you buy a little utility called AddonConverterX.

Best regards,

Jim

If you use FS9 format traffic .bgl files in FSX then FSX format traffic will not show. You need to convert the FS9 bgl's to FSX format using one of the freeware programs available. There are plenty here in the Avsim file library. There are a couple of differences between the two formats, one being that the day of the week numbering is different by one day.

Thanks for listening,

Kail

Thanks Kail for the clarification. You're exactly right. I was just thinking of the aircraft as they are compatible in DX9.

Best regards,

Jim

So, is true that just only one fs9 format file present, contaminates FSX, and its native or converted traffic will not show ?

I have a lot of FS9 format traffic files which I converted, but I am not sure about all being converted.-

Jorge Soldano

Soldano, yes it is true. It only takes one FS9 format AI file, and FSX will not show any FSX format traffic. I use AI Flight Planner to convert all FS9 file format traffic files to FSX format.

My Files in the AVSIM Library

How do you know which AI files are in FS9 format? My FS9 skies are full of AI (WOAI mostly) but FSX is an empty world except for me. :(

The AI Flight Planner software mentioned above has a scan feature, that will identify any FS9 flightplans and allow you to convert them to FSX format. If your AI also includes aircraft models in FS9 format, it may also be necessary to turn off aircraft shadows for them to be seen.

Thanks

I have done the same conversion today for several FS9 package using AIFP2 utility. It also scan the whole disk, find every instance of FS9 trafic, convert them and add the letter _fsx at the end of the file name. It offer you the choice to keep or delete the FS9 file.
