Preventing Disengagement of FMC Speed in Weather

Featured Replies

Recently purchased OPUSFSX and installed the new FSX update to REX OD (released in November). On long haul flights, the FMC is disengaging with wind shifts. This has happened with both OPUSFSX and REX. Anyways to prevent this from occurring.

I like both Wx engines, but need to leave the MD11 to fly itself in real time on transpolar routes (Dubai to Anchorage, for instance).

I have the same problem so will be watching to see if there is a solution. One thing I found though was that if the fmc disengages the throttle it will cruise at about Mach 7.1 or so rather than 8.2. Slower than it should be but it does struggle along.

Yes, but I have also had a few flights disappear into the Artic Sea or Northern Siberia. Management also dogs me when I show up three hours later then expected.

There is no fix yet. I ditched Opus and went to AS2012 SP2 because of this, and winds aloft forecasts. Did not have a windshift since. I use REXE textures by the way.

FSUIPC has the option to disable gusts, and you can control windshifts by x number of degrees in x number of seconds....might help

I don't mean to nitpick too much, but the FMC doesn't disengage from anything.

The autopilot or autothrust is disengaging.

And Opus is out with their beta 2.41 now, that is where you should look for a true fix :)

Kyle - you are corrrect, the FMC isn't the issue, it is the A/T speed function on the MCP that is disengaging. Will check out the 2.41 version. In the end, I'm sure the Wx engine designers will come up with a fix.

The real problem is the weather shifting unrealistically. I can't believe they still haven't addressed this - what - 8 years later?!

If I find the time in the near future (read: some time next year) I'll see if I can create anything to address this once and for all.

I use AS6.5 and it is configured so that winds aloft are smoothed from within AS itself. Never had any problems since.

It's not as easy as you'd think. Wind modeling is based off of a limited set of reporting stations and smoothed in order to create wind models in real life, using dedicated systems. The only way wind is smoothed in the sim is by creating extra fake stations and using interpolation, but that depends on the weather mode you're using based on the add-on.

There is only ever one wind applied to the aircraft at any time. All it needs is monitoring and looking for a change. If the change is e.g. +/- 10 degrees, and +/- 10 kts, then apply a smoothing algorithm between the old value and the new value. It's not hard to do.

Robin.

Sure! Have patience though - I'm busy with my day job at the moment. The first version will be FSX only.

The people best placed to fix it are those creating the weather engines. Seems to me they do far less than they first appear.

Robin.

FSUIPC does this.

I was speaking in the way of fixing the root issue, however.

That needs the weather program devs to do that. FS is what it is.
