Camara Help?

Hi Zoran

I asked you a couple of questions in post #8.

Does AHM work in the dialog when you test it? Have you enabled TrackIR since that would automatically disable AHM?

  • 2 weeks later...

My only frustrations with this terrific programme relate to the creating and saving of camera views in the order I want them. And in understanding the logic of the menu system.

To explain: say I create a camera set for a particular a/c and discover that I really want the 'Pedestal' view before, and not after, the Overhead view (Piper PA31 Cheyenne). There appears to be no way to (i) move or change the order of the cameras, or (ii) insert a new camera view between views already created (then deleting the duplicate view that's in the wrong sequence). Am I missing something here?

As regards the logic (more correctly, my inability to follow it) ... the Manual says you can select a pre-existing view if you want and use it when creating a new a/c camera set. I was setting up views for a new a/c type and there in the Select Camera area, were hard-won views I'd previously set up for the NGX. I duly borrowed one or two of those views to apply them to my new a/c to avoid my having to do them twice, and ended up butchering my NGX camera set, so that I had to redo them.

I found myself caught up in a sort of cycle of 'create and destroy'. B) Is the design logic in this part of the Cameras setup that we should end up with pool of views covering all our configured a/c, but only a selection of them end being tied to any particular a/c, as per use of the Assign to A/c feature?

OR ....is it better to name each and every view, tying it to a specific a/c to avoid this problem?

The first issue has cost me the most time for me so far, so any tips or guidance welcome! Thanks.

Hi Gareth

We will soon be adding an enhancement to reorder camera views and also an option to cycle backwards through the views. Also on the list are options to import and export camera views so users can share settings.

You should be able to edit an existing camera and assign to additional aircraft, but remember any adjustments you make will apply to all the selected aircraft in the list (old and new), if that makes sense.

It is up to you if you wish to create new cameras for specific aircraft. The basic process is;

  • optionally select a view similar to the one you want with Select Your Camera View,
  • select Add a New Camera,
  • name the new camera view,
  • Assign Aircraft Types To Your Camera View,
  • make any adjustments,
  • Save All Cameras.

Cheers

Hi

The manual ordering of camera views is on the to do list and will be available soon.

But when cloning a camera view you missed one important step, in order to 'clone' the camera view you MUST first select it in the dialog THEN click on Add New Camera ... That clones it ready for editing, naming, assigning aircraft to, and saving (Save All Cameras).

It sounds as though you just selected it and then edited it, which simply edits the original view!

Please also check out our Flight1 forum, you will find plenty of assistance there. But the step by step guide in the manual should be fairly easy to follow, and all the important buttons have now been coloured green to remind you of what needs to be done. Just don't forget to 'Add New Camera' to clone the view before editing it.

Regards

Stephen

Thank you both for these helpful replies. Very good news about the view enhancements - it's was one thing in EC's favour. Very happy with that news.

Stephen you were of course right about pushing the buttons in the proper order. I was using my own logic aka intuition instead - which always brings us back to RTFM!

Thanks again for the unsurpassed service.

Back with me again....

I know it's my errors but i'm getting so frustrated with making all my views. I have very many addon aircraft and so many views to make.

My problem now is accidentally ending up with 2 or 3 slightly different views when I hit the button on my yoke. I've tried deleting the view and recreating but the error remains. What have I done wrong?

Also, when clicking the button over and over in the same aircraft with the camera menu open, it cycles through them all (dozens). Why?

Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

Hi Dougal

It can take a while to get your head around camera creation, you have to follow the manual carefully, have you got the latest version from our website?

Not totally sure what you mean by having 2 or 3 slightly different views when I hit the button on your yoke, but there is an error within FSX that can occasionally move the eyepoint slightly when you display a view, is this what you mean?

Also not sure why you would be clicking the button over and over with the camera menu open, the menu would normally be closed in flight and clicking the same button would cycle through all views assigned to the button. What operation were you trying to perform with the menu open? Are you using the Assign Aircraft Types To Your Camera View button prior to Save All Cameras so that the views are restricted to certain aircraft?

All I mean is, that somehow, I've ended up with several slightly different views associated with the same button on my yoke for some aircraft. Even if I then delete every view JUST for thst aircraft, the same happens after I then create new cam vuews for it. I can only assume I've some how associated another A/Cs cam with it. Only how do I find out which?

Hi Phil

Are you clicking on the Add New Camera button before editing the view, naming it, assigning aircraft to it etc. if you get stuck just email me your CAM file and I will take a look. There is also a handy step by step guide in the latest Live Camera document. But just remember ...

1. If you have a similar view to the one you wish to create then just select that view first.

2. Then click on the Add New Camera button, that will clone the view.

3. Then rename the view as per the guide.

4. Then assign the aircraft to the view.

5. Edit the view and set all required zoom, DHM, AHM parameters etc.

6. Most important, then click Save All Cameras.

Also make sure you are using the latest release just in case you are suffering from an older problem. For instance the auto reordering of the views caused problems.

When you select your camera view over on the right of the dialog there is a box labelled Assigned which tells you how many aircraft are assigned to the view. So if you Restrict the camera Views You Wish to Edit to All Aircraft Types you should see a corresponding figure in the Assigned box.

Hi Phil

We have just posted a new beta today, can you try that out and tell me if that improves the transition between camera views, i.e. no default view being flashed up in between.

Thanks

Cheryl

Finally started playing with the camera views and have figured out some issues I had in the past. One thing though that maybe I'm missing..is there a way to use the middle mouse button as a freelook?

  • Commercial Member

Hi Vincent

To pan around you can use either the standard hat switch, FSX Mouse Look or TrackIR.

FSX uses the hat switch as standard for panning views around, this panning is fully compatible with our camera control and effects. If you have disabled your controllers in FSX and are using FSUIPC then you can enable mouse wheel button panning and that also re-enables the hat switch on the joystick.

FSX Mouse Look conflicts with TrackIR so you need to disable TrackIR (F9) prior to using Mouse Look.

To use Mouse Look try the following methods;

• press the space bar whilst holding down the left mouse button

• hold down the middle wheel button whilst moving the mouse around

• press shift-O then move whilst holding down the left mouse button, press shift-O again to exit mouse look

• program the wheel button to shift-O in your mouse driver.
