November 16, 201213 yr Hmmmm, standing seats? Would be no worse than a long subway ride I guess. Whats next, passenger parachute dropoff.
November 16, 201213 yr He said this last year also, It’s his way of keeping Ryanair in the media spotlight and therefor getting free advertising Hate the airline personally but I do have a love/hate feeling toward to Michael O’Leary Stephen Asus Z170 Deluxe, 32 GB DDR4 Dominator Platinum, i7 6700k mild overclock, GTX Titan ( Pascal ) Win10
November 16, 201213 yr I love him. Fantastic PR man. Some of his ideas actually make sense, like charging 1 euro to use the toilet. I usually plan ahead so why should I pay for other people's toilet habits (cleaning toilets, paper, electricity etc - it does add up I guess)? If they can remove one of the two toilets, they can have a few more seats = more revenue/cheaper fares for me. Other ideas are quite awful, like the standing passengers bit. Except there's a lot bigger chance of being in a bus accident than a plane accident, so somehow it's not too bad that one either. But something tells me he knows he'll never be allowed to get standing seats by the aviation authorities, so it's probably mostly a statement that's supposed to make the public discuss Ryanair, like we're doing now.

What happens if you "plan ahead" but suddenly have an urge and because you have planned ahead have no money on you? Would Ryanair allow you to 'have an accident'? Other ideas are quite awful, like the standing passengers bit. Except there's a lot bigger chance of being in a bus accident than a plane accident, so somehow it's not too bad that one either. Depends on how you measure it, per billion miles traveled you are quite correct, also the measure the Airline industry uses. However per billion journeys, bus travel is actually by quite some way the safest form of transport...the measure that the insurance companies use. Planes aren't the same as either tube trains (as he mentions) or buses, unlikely those forms of transport planes do and can move in three dimensions, of which all are largely unrestricted. I was on a plane flying over Chengdu in China, the plane fell around 6 feet, had anybody been standing they would have met the ceiling of the plane with their head and probably would have been killed. Buses and trains do not encounter turbulence or hard landings. He has created a nightmare for his own cabin crew, i can see the smart remarks now when passengers are told to fasten their belts 'but your CEO says seat belts are irrelevant'. Ian R Tyldesley
November 16, 201213 yr Like someone in the comments of the linked page said, O'Leary was more advertising his 25 Pound seat which he used in his comparison. Well done. This is really smart marketing. I don't think he believes one second that he'll get approval to that. It had to be such "out of the question thing" so anybody would talk about. Regards Hirschi

November 16, 201213 yr In case of an emergency landing. " You standing, bend over, place head between legs, kiss---- goodbye"
November 16, 201213 yr I hate that man with a passion... Besides, the only way that'd economically work is if he could fit 25 people paying €1 into the space one seat took up... and even more people if he sold the seats for more than €25... He takes into account nothing to do with turbulence. It's a clear publicity stunt. He causes my blood to boil that man does. He's a disgrace to the name of Ireland. I'll give it to him that he's a good business man, but boy, some day he will trip up, and I will have absolutely no sympathy for him. He's number one on the enemies list at work and that's not likely to change any time soon. Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
November 16, 201213 yr I don't like his business habbits, too. Offering such a price works only, if on the other side costs are reduced. And what are those costs? Sallary, health care for employees, pension plans, maintenance etc. etc. But the stunt was great, throwing in an absolutely irrational idea just to keep the people talking about Ryanair.
