November 17, 201213 yr Commercial Member Hi guys, We are always prodding away to try and make FSX run smoothly. My findings over the last few weeks have been that using the usepools=0 causes stutter. Quite noticable. Putting the reject threshold in, actually reduces the stutter. What is everyone working with? I am very aware of Word Not Allowed wanting to put usepools=0, Nick N suggests the opposite. What is working? Alex Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK
November 17, 201213 yr I used NickN's guide (no UsePools) and my FSX very rarely has stutters, though I've yet to try UsePools FS2004 Forever
November 17, 201213 yr I used Word Not Allowed's guide to the letter and have no stuttering. Poolsize=0. I am not using DX10. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

November 17, 201213 yr FPS locked at 30 in FSX. I can get some lower frame rates with my ATI card in overcast cumulus, or occasionally over populated areas (both autogen sliders are currently maxed), but I haven't seen stuttering in ages. FPS can drop into the teens at times, but usually stays at 30. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

November 17, 201213 yr The time I see stutters say is the ngx VC looking sideways same here. microstutter at its best especially in sideview out of the cockpit. Locked to 30fps first internally (was worse) then externally via NVInspector (works better for me). Commented "Poolsize" and "usepool" out and the stutterig went away. Regards Hirschi

November 17, 201213 yr Bufferpools at 0 is the only way to have autogen at extremely dense (and other graphic settings far right too, apart from water one notch down) and still keep my max fps of 30. I can't 'live' without bufferpools. No way. It rocks and it's the best tweak ever.
November 17, 201213 yr With FPS locked at 30, I get the smoothest performance with usepools=0. But, I do get some occasional flashing textures because I don't like setting the water effects to High.2x (I just don't like the looks of the reflections for general flying). Using reject threshold even when set as low as 98304, gives me the expected slightly reduced performance in trade for no flashing. After testing back and forth between the two and using both in many routinel flights, I have preferred the usepools=0.for normal use. Frankly, though, both settings have proven generally smooth and have been quite acceptable for my use. November 17, 201213 yr so you removed poolsize all together and locked the fps externally = stutters disappearing? Exactly. Forgot sth: Fiber_Frame_TIME_FRACTION. Tried 0.25 but flashing textures appeared so I reset it to 0.33 What I think is that every tuning guide out works perfectly when you have the same pc and fsx configuration. I use it as an indication and often I have to change some recommendations to ensure a solid gfx flow in my system. Regards Hirschi
November 17, 201213 yr Doing quite marvelous with no tweaks and autogen @ max settings (6000 for trees and buildings). Pool tweaks made my FSX very unstable, like sudden freeze after flying for 1 hr or CTD. The black art of FSX tweaking is very computer specific. November 17, 201213 yr Using "Reject Threshold"actually turns BP to "1", as RT is only effective if BP are being used. I'm not sure which of "BP=0" and "RT=n" would take precedence, however these terms are mutually exclusive, as far as I understand. I have been recently using a file built with Word Not Allowed's settings (including BP=0), and although I have some fps loss (but I still have to OC), it works well. Thanks, Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. November 17, 201213 yr Are your frames on locked or unlimited? I'm using UsePools=0 and with complex aircrafts like PMDG, I have to set my frames to unlimited or else I get stutters. Just a question for those using UsePools=0... Do you have to delete RejectThreshold? I remember reading somewhere that when you set UsePools=0, it will ignore RejectThreshold. Now I'm not sure.
