What's the latest with USEPOOLS=0?

Featured Replies

Are your frames on locked or unlimited? I'm using UsePools=0 and with complex aircrafts like PMDG, I have to set my frames to unlimited or else I get stutters.

Just a question for those using UsePools=0... Do you have to delete RejectThreshold? I remember reading somewhere that when you set UsePools=0, it will ignore RejectThreshold. Now I'm not sure.

I use frames unlimited within FSX and let the Nvidia limiter take care of the cap. I tend to get better frame rates that way (ymmv).

When using "UsePools=0", I disable RejectThreshold by placing "///" in front of it. At any rate, RejectThreshold is ignored when Usepools is set to "0".

Hi guys,

We are always prodding away to try and make FSX run smoothly.

My findings over the last few weeks have been that using the usepools=0 causes stutter. Quite noticable.

I think it's difficult to come up w/ a one-size-fits-all approach for FSX configuration. There are too many dependencies involved ranging from specific hardware/drivers, to OS, and to how all of these variables are configured--the possibilities are quite literally limitless! What's more, attributing 'more stutters' to any one variable has 'red herring' written all over it, for the reasons I just described.

In the end, see what works for you and go with it. I have dated hardware, use usepools=0, and don't have stutters to speak of. I've run w/ bufferpools defined, and had no stutters there too.

There's something else wrong then. A duplicate afcad, corrupted texture, etc.

Thanks! Good to know since I now have a fresh and clean install of FSX. I'll give it a try and see if having zero addons installed has made any difference in terms of stability.

Windows 8 does some magic with Windowed VSync it just works, Frame Rate Locked at 30 in Inspector

Several people here say they like BP=0, but they don't have their PC listed. Probably they have NV cards. My ATI cards have autogen spikes and stutters using unlimited amd BP=0. I also had flashing textures at FFTF=0.1. Reset to 0.33 and no more flashing.

If you have a NV card, I think most will have better luck with Word Not Allowed's Guide. If you have a ATI card, maybe you should try the following settings (I use external limiter locked at 30):

[bufferPools]

UsePools=1

PoolSize=8388608 // 4MB Default 4194304

RejectThreshold=524288 //524288, 262144, 126976, 98304

UsePools=0

PC is listed, i have no stutters at all, framerate is limited through the nVidia driver and i also use adaptive VSYNC. Perfect flights with 60fps sky high and 40fps+ "down to earth".

There are cases where i can't get 40fps (badly developed scenery or real heavy scenery, etc) but still no stuttering and still over 30fps.

Like I said, most NV users will have better luck with BP=0. I also think Vsync should be forced on, in ATI cards.

How do you have FPS over 30 if it's locked in Inspector?

It seems like a lot of you are putting the internal fps to unlimited? And then locking the fps through inspector with the adaptivde vsnyc at 30fps?

Is that right?

What about water at high 2.0#?

The BP=0 is a great tweak with the right card and the correct AA settings. The gtx 580, 670, & 680 should handle the setting with water at H2x.

Most cards can't handle BP=0 with 8xS & 2x SGSS and 16AS.

I have noticed that it does not matter what setting I have, BP=0, default, or any reject setting, I have to have the water set at H2x or else I get some flashing. My card sucks. This is why I'm considering a gtx 680.

I'm tired of trying to find a BP setting that will allow me to lower the water setting without the flashes. Lower water = better fps and better performance. The sim is much smoother with BP=0, but water must be set to H2x.

No, that's not right. Afaik those who use the adaptive vsync option also have their frames limited in FSX otherwise it won't work as advertised.

About the water: I am not sure what you mean, but I do know that with BP=0 you will prevent flashes and artifacts if you have water at High 2.0. Having water at a lower setting results in flashes and odd stuff happening.

I used Word Not Allowed's guide to the letter and have no stuttering. Poolsize=0. I am not using DX10.

I find very little information about the best settings for Nvidia surround i7 systems. Is Word Not Allowed, Bojote or Nicks guide do apply to context where you have very high resolution with 3 screens to draw? This is quite demanding.

I observe a lot of problem of texture loading and autogen popping but its true that i push the system with 4096 cloud texture (and i fly almost exclusively IFR these days) and the highest resolution my monitor allows. i see often FPS in the 10 to 20 range, sometimes more than 30 in remote area over forest.

i have two gtx 580 in surround mode. Moderate OC at 4.3 for the CPU. no overclock on the graphics cards. not yet implemented Vsync neither DX10 fix by Stephens.

Anyone with a similar set-up? what is your experience?

P3D when its freezing in Quebec....well, that's most of the time...
C-GDXL based at CYQB for real flying when its warming up...

I have an ATI card and just enabled "ForceWindowedVSync" but left BP=0 as is since BP=1 makes my FSX do weird things. I'm not sure how much of a difference "VSync" is suppose to make but it's all trial & error for me.
