Scenery Devs: Don't take pictures of Greek military airports

Featured Replies

That is a bit extreme....I have been stopped a few times in my life for taking pictures of Navy ships and all they did was warn, 'You are not supposed to take pictures of the Navy'

I just stop when they say. I do have quite a collection of Navy pictures and as a tax payer, think it should be OK to take pictures of them, but I understand the security concerns.

They are not bad in New Zealand with these sort of rules, Been able to photograph a few NZ and Oz warships without a problem. I would like to see one of Australia's submarines at some point.

Cheers

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Cultural differences. Which does not mean that the bureaucracy will allow itself to look stupid by backing down.

Eight of the people involved in the above case were eventually sentenced to three years in prison, with the rest convicted of espionage, so this could be a lot more serious than most of our own cultures might at first lead you to believe.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

For those who don't know yet, Greece and Turkey have had a "difficult" relationship for centuries (big understatement).

I guess this is probably the reason why Greek authorities are so nervous.

I am aware of that relationship but also find it funny that both are NATO members...What happens when a NATO country attacks a NATO country

I don't see a modern conflict breaking out between these two. if it was going to break out it would have happened back in 1974, when Turkey invaded Cyprus.

This happened months ago and as a Greek myself born in Canada I am in shock. I love ARMA 2 and bought all the expansion dlc. ARMA 3 will be awesome!

It happened because of the good (bad) old USSR. A common ennemy makes miracles. But, back in the cold war days, the commander of AFSOUTH (Allied Forces South), a US admiral, really needed to be a diplomat because both countries were in his command.

Don't know. We have seen a lot in Europe but thanks God we haven't seen that (yet).

Neither do I. But period of economic difficulties are dangerous times. And never underestimate mankind's ability to ....up big time whenever the opportunity arises !

Matt I'll add you on Facebook and I'll show you some of my pics of the Collins class.

Cultural differences.

Not cultural difference but stupidity. A quote from your link:

British diplomats said they understood the group had a written invitation to attend the air show, but one which would have included a strict no-photography clause.

And they still took photographs!

Gerry Howard

...but one which would have included...

In other words, we don't know for sure that it did.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Greece is renown for its jailing of people taking photos of 'sensitive' material. Going to Greece? Do plenty of research first. Then triple check. I wouldn't bother with them myself. At least in the US you won't go to jail for taking a pic of an F-15.

They were still stupid not to have checked the local law. before taking photographs.

Gerry Howard

I wouldn't bother with them myself

Meaning?

DIMITRI

gametab-dcs-p-51d-mustang.jpgcrawling_bug.gif

Meaning?

Why go to Greece to risk jail?

If I went to Greece I would take photos but not of aircraft or at airports. They have some pretty scenery there. I'm pretty sure that it isn't illegal to take photos of the scenery.

But for military stuff I wouldn't bother risking jail. That is what I meant. Wasn't political, wasn't hate speech or anything like that Dimitri...ok?

I'm not against Greece. I just don't like the idea of spending some time in jail.

Look at Singapore. I love it there. It is safe and I know drug smugglers get death there. No problem for me, I don't do drugs!

But it seems like you may be arrested in Greece just for being in the Arma3 crew?
