Commonly, most-used, FSX addons & tweaks!

Featured Replies

FSX itself is a fantastic software. But there are just so much out of the box.

I was wondering what are some of the FSX or FS addons and softwares you guys are using along with your flights?

Some are for functional use (voice command addon etc..) And some are for visual enhancements like sceneries. I'm relatively new to the FS world and I'm sure many of you fellow AV simmers out there have like a bunch of addons that you can't live without!

Say you have a new desktop and a fresh & clean install of FSX. What are some of the addons that you would straight away have installed like it should have been with FSX? Do share! :D

Cheers!

I like flying airliners so my list is:

Terrain: Ultimate Terrain X, Ground Environment eXtreme, FSGenesis

Airports: OMDB, Kai Tak, SunSkyJet PHL

Airplanes: All PMDG, QW Avro, Level D 767 (Still)

WX: AS2012 Opus

Extra: EditVoicePack, FSUIPC, GSX

Tons more than this, but just my short list.

"I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma

First I install FSUIPC, then GEX/UTX/REX/EzDok/ RC4/MytrafficX/then the birds.

Apart from my favourite planes (I have lots, it doesn't make sense to post them all).

Same as Vincent, FSUIPC. http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html The free version is perfectly ok and helps you fixing some FSX bugs. Lets call it a very versatile module for.. everything. The payware version would help you with extra hardware and a lot of tweaks for this and that. If you would ever run into trouble with wonky weather in the sim, it may be the only option to help you.

EZCA, means EZdok Camera Addon (EZCA) for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. http://www.flight1.c...oduct=ezdockcam A great tool to help on the views itself and add some effects. A bit of a tricky setup at first, but they offer some very good videos to help.

MCE, means Multi Crew Experience. Now that's a thing to fully drive the sim via voice. So you have a first officer, can handle the ATC, run checklists and so on. http://www.multicrewxp.com/

Scenery. That's tricky. For small planes, I'd head for Orbx scenery of any kind. It's just fun to explore and their area addons are great for the money. http://www.fullterrain.com/ If you get their Australian basepacks, you have a lot to explore. If you add freeware to it, months of flying fun for small and big planes are coming. They offer a demo and some free airports too!

For flying the jets, high and fast, you may be more interested in some nice airport renditions as the rest of the scenery literally flies by. So pick some nice freeware airports from here. http://www.freewares...ry.com/fsx.html Or head for your favourite major airport as somebody might already offer it for FSX, as payware. You already have airports in FSX of course, but they are sometimes very outdated or just very sparse on the detail.

The payware often is way better than the freeware but comes at price of course. Sometimes, you even run into some limits when it comes to good fps or just the memory demands in conjunction with fancy addon planes. So the tip is to use the forum search on possible candidates as the folks may already have discussed most offerings.

For nice weather in the sim, check the freeware. It does a good job. That's FSRealWx. http://www.hanse-coders.net/index.php

For enhancing the sim in general, e.g. cloud textures, the water and the sky plus some decent weather engine, maybe REX (Real Environment Extreme) is a good tip. I really like it and wouldn't run FSX without the extra spice. http://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/

If you ever wonder about some hardware, get some pedals and a throttle. It really adds some feeling to flying. And when it comes to looking around, the rather expensive but great TrackIR may be worth a look. http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/ Don't worry, it would be perfectly normal to say 'why would I need that?' at first. But maybe a friend of yours can show you what it does. It changes the sim flying a lot. One has to try it though.

There also is a free solution which works with your webcam. Called FaceTrackNoIR http://facetracknoir...ome/default.htm

For AI traffic, being denser and more beautiful than the default planes, I'd go for Ultimate Traffic 2. One can test it for 30 days thanks to the Flight1 policy. http://www.flight1.c...asp?product=ut2

For most items, there are numerous choices. Personal preference decides! So once again the search may help unless the companies offer some demo versions. To save some money, I'd head for any freeware option first and then think about payware if I'd feel the need for more.

And, finally, be aware that the denser you pack those addons on good old FSX, the more of a computer expert you get. Some day, you will know how that sentence was meant. ^_^

For the tweaking stuff, check Word Not Allowed's guide or use this free website from an Avsim member (Bojote). He offers some automated tweaking for free (or a small donation). http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html

FSUIPC is probably the best overall purchase for FSX. Hands down, the most utility of any other single piece of add-on software.

I couldn't do with out AccuFeel. Worth the price of admission for all the extra sounds if nothing else.

OpusFSX radically changed my flying for the better. Mostly MIL aircraft for me, OpusFSX made me deal with real weather, real wind, and IFR...all to make me a better sim pilot.

My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet

Working on MSFS 2024 versions.

I'll put them in my order of importance to me:

1. UTX

2. FSGenesis mesh

3. Air Hauler

4. Ideal Flight 10

5. Tongass Fjords X

6. high quality addon planes
