AOTD for 12/9 - Earnie Lake

Featured Replies

Looks like a long flight to collect this one. Similar to McCall Glacier.

Enjoy.

Sorry. I spelled it wrong. I guess my fingers were faster than my brain.

Thank you.

Hi Folks

Another misleading one.

Northwest, not northeast.

EDIT -

Definitely not at Ernie Lake.

Approx 14 NM southeast of Ernie Lake,

at one of the cwm lakes near here

I was just going to post the same thing, Paul. Ernie Lake is certainly not NE of Bettles. It is NW as you stated.

I wonder if the MS Flight team was just toying with us or someone just didn't know their compass directions. This isn't the first one of these.

Thank you.

Rick

Even though I had a good idea where this was, I think it was the hardest aerocache I've earned yet. I flew valley after valley looking for the lake and after burning a lot of time and fuel, the marker finally popped up. It wasn't where I thought it would be. It seemed like I was within 20m. of it forever, then ten miles also.

This is the way a cache should be. You've got to put some effort into finding them and this one fills the bill.

Thank you.

I don't know about that, Rick. :P I usually do some long flying before getting to the Aerocache and by then I want to get it fast and land. B) But, Chloe can't satisfy everybody and she is obviously trying to make things interesting for those who complained about those that popped up right away.

On the other hand, she is also giving somewhat misleading clues, forcing us to really do work.

Evidently not NE of Bettles, and many thanks to Paul for the right directions. Now I can get it quickly. ^_^

Best regards.

Luis

I admit it. I Google Mapped Ernie Lake before takeoff. NW not NE. Enjoyed the entire flight until the marker showed up, pointing the wrong way! I followed it though, and collected the cache while still a fair distance away. Flew on to the real Ernie Lake and landed my Cub. Flew on to Crevice Creek Airport, and then back to Bettles to complete the loop. These "funny" caches end up being a lot of fun.

Yeah this one was confusing.

Just figured it out by reading this thread here since i don`t use ingame markers.

Hunted for a while and found nothing.

Now i found it

The position is 30nm Radial 290° from Bettles VOR 116.00

Thanks for the pointer Heimi. I was running out of time on this one, looking in all the wrong places. I am still amazed at how up and personal you can get. I did a water ski landing on what I think was Ernie Lake or close by. What a vista. Yes, I do a lot of water ski landing in small places with the Cubby.

Steve

That took me ages. I decided the sensor was faulty or it had disappeared or something. Glad I checked here, Thanks. B)
