July 31, 200421 yr Hi,I have just spent a couple of hours flying the new freeware Chipmunk by Rick Piper and team.WOW, its outstanding, the whole package is extremely well put together and is so good that it surpasses many payware releases. If you have not downloaded it yet, get it, you will not be dissapointed. Many, many thanks to Rick and the team :)CheersDan.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/86231.jpg
July 31, 200421 yr Hi GuysThanks for the coments & title.I wish RealAir Simulation would let us know how to get spinning to work as well as it does on their Models.I'm not happy with the chipmunk spin or stall. Also noticed a couple of last minute part adjustments that need doing to Canadian Bubble Canopy model. Will add them to my fix list for Version 1.1.Otherwise it's very close to correct. Thanks again Guys.Regards,Rick. ;o)
July 31, 200421 yr Outstanding aircraft, Rick. Thanks so much.A Chipmunk at the Canada Aviation Museum offers rides around the Ottawa area so I get to see one airborne all the time.BlairCYOW
July 31, 200421 yr You never know Rick, maybe one of the Realair guys reading this could "help you out" a little to get the Chippie to spin?CheersDan.
July 31, 200421 yr Agreed! Just took it for a spin, and the flight dynamics seem AOK. Love the various skins available. Love the turning heads on the pilot and passenger. Love the Cockpits, both 2D and VC. Very much like a CFS2 cockpit. Is there a story there I wonder? It's staying on the hard drive :)
July 31, 200421 yr I also want to say "thanks" for this outstanding plane. I just flew a circuit and I am really impressed. It handles very nicely, and it looks great. The exterior view is fantastic, with the best pilot animations I have seen (payware or freeware). The VC is very crisp and has just the right amount of detail. It also comes with a nice set of HTML checklists and a reference manual.All-in-all, this is payware quality. I am constantly amazed by those people in the FS community who spend their time and talents giving us such fantastic planes to fly--for Free!Cheers to the development team of this one.
August 1, 200421 yr Author I agree... this is really nicely done!!This one is staying on my harddrive, even though many others have been deleted :-)A "gift" for sure! Bert
August 2, 200421 yr WOOOWOOO great plane. Couldn't find a single fault. Thank you sooo much guys. Don
August 2, 200421 yr I had to put my 2 cents in here too, thanks Rick for a fantastic package. It's almost unbelieveable that it's freeware, I'd have gladly paid for this kind of quality. It's already been mentioned that it doesn't spin, bit of a shame, maybe Rob Young is reading this? :-) in IRL the chippy was a bit of a handfull concerning spins, and tended to flat spin in the wink of an eye if you weren't carefull. A mate of mine died back in the 70's after the pilot got it into a flat spin, and couldn't recover again. They hit the ground with almost zero forward speed, but with a sinkrate of about 2000fpm. You can guess the rest...sh*t happens...BestGrahame (EDHL)
August 2, 200421 yr To all.Just downloaded this aircraft after the recommendations. I have to say I'm blown away with it. Everything is extremely well done. The animations, Mike Hambly's fantastic guttoral engine sounds and especially the flight dynamics...an absolute beauty to fly. Well done and thank you to all the team for producing such an outstanding aircraft. I agree that a spin model by Rob Young would make it even better. WOW just doesn't sum up this package! If anyone has Visualflight's photographic scenery, the slow flight with the chipmunk would be perfect for VFR. Keep up the great work.RhydianCardiff, UK
August 2, 200421 yr Wonderful job Rick. In fact you have done such a good job that the only thing I miss is the rather distinctive smell the aircraft used to have. I don't miss having to clean up all the oil it used to throw onto the airframe though! If a repaint is a feasable option I will recreate G-BARS from BAe at Hawarden - it'll sit nicely with their Tiger Moth G-ANTE.. :)boneshttp://fsaviation.nethttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
August 3, 200421 yr Was also very impressed with the Chipmunk - brought back happy memories of learning to fly with the Air Training Corp when I was 15.Only thing missing is the smell of oil and the spinning but other than that its one gorgeous simulation of a fantastic aeroplane:-)Regards and thanks Adam
