Bojote, NickN and Word Not Allowed ( as well as innumerable others on this forum) have all offered options to manipulate the FSX .cfg to obtain optimum FSX performance. Over the life of FSX, and several system mods, I've experimented with all, and finally settled on the settings of one of the aforementioned "Big Three".

 

My system is i7-950 based at 4.2Gig coupled with an GTX-850 video. I have more add-ons installed and activated than I care to admit and run Opus weather on the on the FSX computer. Frame rates are consistently in the 27-30 range without any stuttering or burps. Near major commercially installed airport scenery rates may drop to the 24-25 range, but still smooth.

 

My search or performance is over. As stated above, I've found my solution ......Without declaring which of the "Big Three" settings have led to my satisfaction,( Hint: FSX is internally locked @30fps) I'm curious as to the experience of others.

He is using Word Not Allowed you don't need to see his config.

I set up my system and Nvidia Inspecor as per NickN.

 

Use affinitymask 14 to keep things smooth.

 

And usepools=0 provides the extra performance.

I've also disabled quite a number of background services I don't need after considerable research and trial and error in some cases -not recommended uness you know what you're doing though.

 

Regularly defrag and disk optimise.

HIGHMEMFIX=1 is needed, especially on high end rigs.

I tried kostas. Almost immediately got oom messages but then my rig is rather low end. So I'm back with *******.

One thing none of you mention is disabling the w7. Aero theme. I go to control panel, performance settings, visual settings and clear all the check boxes.

 

This provides the single biggest improvement of all the tweaks I use ~ probably better than 30%

Guys, there is something I understood lately.... After trying Win8 and messing around, I decided to format my whole machine and reinstall Win7 64... FSX without add-ons except REX runs great... so we can't really blame the developers... it is because we are injecting so many add-ons, that we got performance issues.... I think it is worth saying again...

I went with Word Not Allowed's tweaks and I'm very happy with both the performance and the IQ.

 

I'm on a i7-2700K @ 4.8 GHz and a GTX 480. FPS locked @ 30 and only flying to payware scenery airports mostly Aerosoft with AES and I very seldom get below 20 FPS in the NGX and that is always online and with Opus real world weather using AS2012 textures. I also have FSGenesis mesh, GEX and UTX installed but I don't think those have that much of an impact on the performance.

To me the ultimate tweak is Bufferpools at zero. Without it fps is low and FSX just isn't smooth (with very high settings). With it, FSX is awesome. This tweak is worth some 1000 dollars of hardware imho. Whenever I reinstall FSX I immediately apply this tweak. The others I can do without although I use a few (very few) according to Word Not Allowed's guide. But BP is a must have tweak and certainly the ultimate one for me!

Sounds like an ATI Radeon card to me?

One thing I use is an app called TUNEUP utilities. It has a setting called turbo and it turns off background stuff, like aero, and cleans reg, stops startup programs from overwhelming the system.

 

I always hit Turbo before loading FSX. Helps me big time.

 

Word of advice if you do decided to buy it. Test it out first then wait for them to send you a deal on it and they sent me a deal today for $19.
