What now, Microsoft?

Full realism, to give a better idea of the scenery. I admit to being wowed by this. For the first time ever the roads and buildings and other man-made objects seem like legitimate, organic parts of the scenery rather than alien overlays and roads to knowhere. And everything at such a high apparent resolution that no pixelation occurs even at grass level. It feels so sharp that its almost too much.

I know from an interview that MsFlight supposedly had very very high texture resolution capabilities, but don't think they were ever really exploited before the end.

OK, that's it! Downloading as I write. Got to check this out, even though I hate guns... Hope there is some free flight mode...

In the community I bump into so many people who don't like the military aspect of flying. It's always been a puzzle to me since so many sims that first started us off into this hobby were military-based. Anyway, War Thunders designers must be at least a bit sensitive to the issue, since as far as I can tell any plane shot down shows intact chutes for the pilots. :-)

There's a 'test flight' option where you can take any plane you like up for a spin.

Only if you're shot down from high enough ;)

With few exceptions I always just used those evil flight sims for free flight. F-18 Interceptor, Fighter Bomber, LHX Attack Chopper, F-15, EF2000... L

Just like today, MSFS just didn't cut it graphically compared to the best military sims...

You can have hardcore sims with easy to fly planes, try the A2A Piper Cub, great aircraft! The P40 is easy too as well as the Spitfire.

On topic, don't wish Microsoft back, look at how much market value it's lost over the last decade.

Just did a few test flights in War Thunder. Looks nice, but not state of the art. Got bored after buzzing treetops for five minutes. Now uninstalled...

Oh well........ Nothings for everyone! ^_^

For myself, even after some time, there are so many areas and other things, that I cant say I have explored even a tenth of its potential.

Got me thinking though. Would have been pretty cool with an historical flight sim from the 1930s...

I was actually hoping that if enough people showed interest, they might be persuaded to throw in a few civilian craft from the period. The current plans (being able to cooperatively man combat stations in the planes and to drive tanks and pilot ships while others are flying) were so ambitious that a civilian component might not have been a stretch.

After all, when they have already modeled more than a hundred planes (and plan to do many more) would a few civilian ones really be that hard? Or a few quieter maps for a clientele with a willingness to spend cash?

As an aside, I note that they have just hit steam greenlight and already have hundreds and hundreds of overwhelmingly positive comments. I think these guys are going someplace.

Just an observation that this thread has went from its original subject to a quasi-review of War Thunder. I don't mind, just an observation.

I was thinking that too! It just seemed we had exhausted any realistic possibilities for MS in this marketspace in the foreseeable future.

If they announced FS11 an hour from now, who would really trust them at this point not to make a total mess of it.... That's if anyone believed it for a second.
