December 23, 201213 yr I have to say, I fail to see how changing a texture package can affect the way those textures are displayed... when you put the same textures close to each other to form a big area it can cause those undesirable grid effects, you can find an example to understand the situation here http://www.photoshoptextures.com/texture-tutorials/seamless-textures.htm as you can see in step 4 there are 2 different textures used to obtain the same 'ground' image (that could be like 2 different cloud textures for fsx for example) the first one causes a big grid effect when tiled together, the second one doesn't, even if the 2 textures are quite similar when you look at them individually
December 23, 201213 yr Guys, I am having a very similar issue with this tiling effect. (Can't get my image to attach) Have just got OPUS and think it is great but it would appear that certain textures won't display when it is being used. Here are my findings after a few hours testing. OPUS with FSX clouds - no problems. Installed HDEv2 clouds (Pablo Diaz - freeware)- sky looks amazing but the tiling issue appears. HDEv2 clouds with FSX weather - no problem HDEv2 clouds with AS6.5 weather - no problem Re-installed HDEv2 clouds and problems persisted. BUT I have never seen such great weather as displayed by OPUS. Hate having to spend more getting FEX (have it for FS9-now redundant) but if needs must, I will. Just in case has anyone got HDEv2 clouds working with OPUS - I'm sure I read somewhere that guys were recommending this combination. Bill
December 23, 201213 yr Author when you put the same textures close to each other to form a big area it can cause those undesirable grid effects, you can find an example to understand the situation here http://www.photoshop...ss-textures.htm as you can see in step 4 there are 2 different textures used to obtain the same 'ground' image (that could be like 2 different cloud textures for fsx for example) the first one causes a big grid effect when tiled together, the second one doesn't, even if the 2 textures are quite similar when you look at them individually OK... so.. what textures will I have to change in Photoshop and where will I find them? cheers... December 23, 201213 yr no no no you got it wrong , sorry for not being clear enough, this was just intended to show you an example of why a different texture may give you a different result it was not about telling you to launch photoshop and try to fix the texture yourself because you can't do that with complex fsx cloud textures it looks like you have REX, you should try different textures (also non HD ones) and try to find one that works well (yeah i know it's time consuming hehe) .. or maybe someone here can give you the name of one that will work well
December 23, 201213 yr Author Ahh, OK, then I guess it's just about some experimenting.... December 27, 201213 yr Just to update- I have got my problems fixed. I am using OPUS with HDEv2 clouds with the D. Glover Texture/colour update for FSX. I suspect that when installing the D. Glover update some textures may have been missed. Re installed that package making sure I had copied all the textures before pasting. Then I selected a low definition set in the "cumulus" folder. 3 flights now and all looking great. Bill
December 28, 201213 yr Just to confuse the issue I also had this tiling effect yesterday when flying EICK - EGKK. Was using OPusFSX and FEX textures. Hopefully if I try one Stephen's recommended textures above the problem won't reoccur. Will report back!
December 28, 201213 yr Commercial Member Tiling of cloud textures is an FSX effect and is always possible when the same cloud textures are repeated over an extended area which is possible with the Opus LWE. The only way to prevent it entirely is to change the weather from cell to cell, or let FSX do this by morphing the weather, but then that means changing the RW conditions. No weather engine can select the actual cloud textures or actually position the individual clouds, this is all performed internally within FSX. But regarding the tiling effect, this is less apparent with some textures. Regards Stephen
December 29, 201213 yr Sad to say that my strange cloud effects reappear at times (other times no problems at all). As Stephen has suggested sometimes they clear up by themselves as the weather changes. Have only seen this when running Opus - possibly because it is asking more of FSX? But is it only a few of us experiencing this? If so, is it something in our set ups? As usual, on forums, most posts are from people with problems. So I can only assume that many, many users are having no issues at all. Bill
January 2, 201313 yr Just to chip in and say that I definitely experienced this tiling effect prior to purchasing Opus - when using AS2012 with Rex Textues. Still seeing it on a fairly regular basis with Opus, although I think it's a bit more pronounced due to better overcast effects. Neil Burgess
