FSPassengers Question

Featured Replies

Long story short, I downloaded the demo and gave it a try. The current I have is December 2008. Is the software still being developed upon and updated?

I'd like to know prior to spending the money on it?

I've heard it's not being supported but haven't researched it personally. i use it every time up and it works great. I just hope I can reinstall it for my next build around mid next year.

Also, I suggested to the developers of REX Essentials Plus, their new product Latitude that they consider adding some of the features from FSPax to it. He sounded at least open to the idea.

It's old and unsupported. I own it but don't use it and certainly would NOT advice anyone to buy it.

Latitude isn't a real substitute for FSPassenger: it mainly monitors how neat you fly and that's about it, really (the rest it is supposed to do is a bit nonsense imho and hence the addon is highly overpriced: I also wouldn't advice Latitude to anyone, really: it's nice to have now I have it but I wouldn't buy it again, at least not in its current state), but the upcoming SimAir (also from REX) may be interesting: http://www.simairexperience.com/

FSPassengers is no longer supported, there have been very vague comments from the developer from time to time about fixing things and improvements, but nothing ever comes of it. Be aware it seems to be a little problematic under Windows Vista / 7.

My personal opinion is that it's shocking the developer keeps charging for it.

I can recommend FSCaptain, it doesn't feature (as yet) the economy side of FSP but is much stronger on the flying side. It's possibly the most over looked add-on for FS, the support is first rate and releases are regular.

I second Ian's post regarding FS Captain. A big step up from FS Pax and well supported.

Many thanks for the excellent advice gents, I really appreciate it. That said, I have looked at FSCaptain and will certainly consider it. The REX addon posted above really has peaked my interest though, so thanks for the link as I was unaware of its development. Still, looks like it has a way to go until it nears a release.

We're currently hard at at work on the next release of FSCaptain which will feature the ACARS device as a standalone Windows app as well as a gauge. We'll be announcing the public beta to the community here on Avsim when it's ready which should be soon.

FSCaptain offers an in-depth simulation of company dispatch procedures, but we realize that's not everyone's cup of tea so the new version will contain a simplified mode that just gives you the crew, passengers and career without the dispatcher to fuss with.

We're also enhancing the realistic hazards package and hope to offer de-icing procedures as well but that may have to wait until the subsequent release as we want to integrate with GSX once they include de-icing and an API.

So those enhancements, among other things.

I've been toying around with the demo for the past 30 minutes of so. It's not quite as user friendly as Passengers, learning curve wise that is. With FSP I was easily able to simply drop in and go with almost zero reference to any documentation. However, I'm sure with a little determination and instruction reading it can be done. ^_^ If I could make one suggestion (not like it matters) - The GUI in Captain, like that in Passengers, has a rather antiquated look to it. While shifting over the tabs, I couldn't help but feel like I was looking at something from the Win98 UI. It's rather off putting and isn't aesthetically pleasing in the least... which is one of the reasons I uninstalled FSP pretty quickly.

A revamp with a more intuitive GUI featuring scrollable options, drop down boxes, and the like would have garnered a purchase from me immediately. As it stands now, I'll likely be waiting for SimAir from REX even though I am impressed with what FSCaptain is capable of.

May I suggest looking at a system that has been around for many many years... is completely free to use and has hundreds of active users daily.

I know FS Economy is not designed for the pilots that fly big airliners exclusively, but there has been huge changes away from the original concept of small GA aircraft only. As a matter of fact the users of FSE can even fly their 737's now B)

The software has proven itself over many years and is compatible with FS9 , FSX, and X Plane !. Why not check 'em out today ?

You're right the look and feel of the Administrator hasn't been updated since the beginning other than to add features, and it looks out of date. We've been concentrating more on substance than style and it's overdue for some visual modernization, along with a greater use of windows controls; although there are quite a few drop-downs etc as I recall. We'll definitely make that a priority and probably see more sales as a result.

Very good point.

Be aware it seems to be a little problematic under Windows Vista / 7.

I use it under Vista 64 w/ no problems. It works well and does everything it's supposed to do. I would definitely buy it again provided it can be installed under Vista64 which I will most likely continue to use for my next build as there is nothing compelling (according to responses here) for moving to Win 7 for FSX only.

I stopped using FSP before i migrated from Windows XP (32) to Windows 7 (64). I do every, now and again, read the forum. I have read, actually from the moderators; that the product can have issues with Vista / 7 64-bit and good luck getting any support on the subject. Curiously the often posted "tire blow issue" i never experienced.

I used the product under FS9 when it first came out, i bought it without hesitation when it was released for FSX, i am / was very unhappy with the support / development; but the really annoying aspect was that the developer continues to charge, if this was free or the source code was available i would be far more understanding.

I am not trying to get people to upgrade to Windows 7, if you are happy with XP great, if you are happy with FSP, even better; but i would be very reluctant to recommend that particular product (FSP) with the above caveats in mind.

As mentioned, I use FSP in Vista 64 with no problems--don't use XP for FSX. Nor do I care if it's being developed more or supported because, as mentioned, it works well and does what it is supposed to do. So, I have no problem recommending it to others based on my experience only...

I understood what you were saying perfectly. You are fully entitled to your thoughts on this.

However i would feel an obligation to let potential paying customers know that the software will not be updated and is not supported, other than by knowledgeable forum members.
