AOTD for 1/3/13 - Iditarod #3 - Yentina Bend

Featured Replies

Checkpoint #3 for the Iditarod. Looks like they answered the question about checkpoint #2 - Willow being repeated.

Enjoy and watch out for trees.

Thank you.

Well, that was scary. I foolishly created a flight plan from Willow to Jewell with stops at all the strips in between. It seemed like a good way to increase my unique airports count.

But, watch out! A lot of those are very short and have very tall trees on all sides. That was some challenge, even for the Cub. Boy, I wish somebody like Meshman could put together a Lumberjack pack and clear all those trees from runway ends. B)

After my last stop-and-go at Jewell, it was over to Yentna Bend, previously located on Google, for the Aerocache.

What do you know? It's got its own landing strip. Well, at least Chloe didn't have us start the hunt there. It seemed like a good idea to end the flight by landing there.

My unique airport count has just gone up by 8 or 9 more. B)

Best regards.

do.png Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!

A very short runway to say the least. Oh yes, and ice covered to boot! I did have to get out and turn the plane around for take off.

I collected this a bit earlier, but no pics. It was fun landing the CC at Yetna too. Lots of trees, short runway, and slick surface. Made it without any problem though. Fortunately I had a 15 kt. headwind on landing and taking off.

On another note, something really weird is going on with the aerocaches lately. Just out of curiosity, I checked the Flight website a few minutes ago, and now the AOTD shows "Havard Glacier". (They still haven't corrected the spelling for Harvard).

I hope they get this straightened out soon, as I'm trying to keep an accurate list of each days offering and this is screwing it up.

Thank you.

yeah..I missed they flipped back to Harvard Glacier..have it already. No Iditarod #3 - Yentina Bend for me.

Yes indeed. It's like the Aerocache Refresh Rate has changed from 24 hours to 8 hours, 3 times per day. Hello Kitty ...

They spelled it like the locals say it... Ha..vard. :)

It was a real challenge to land on that small strip.

Did it with the Maule and that was a tight fit! Stopped just before the trees at the end of the runway. No take-off possible again.

You know you can get out and turn the aircraft around don't you?

Didn't know you can turn the aircraft around. How do you do that?

You must exit the aircraft with the E key and walk to where you want to be facing. Hit the M key and go to the hanger, reselect your aircraft. Hit the M key  again and Bresto, you have turned the aircraft around. Nothing to it, I do it often to get out of a tight spot. There is no push back. Oh yes, walk away from the aircraft quickly or you will be caught.
