Disappointed with Carenado Baron

Featured Replies

My system specs are i5 3.2 Ghz processor, nVidia GT560 Ti, Windows 7 and 4 Gb RAM.

I also have the Dreamfleet Baron.

At one of UK2000's Extreme airports the Dreamfleet shows no stutters and pans just fine. The Carenado shows a 25% drop in fps at the same airport and panning causes very noticeable stutters.

As soon as I turn on the Master Avionics switch in the Carenado I get another 6 fps drop which does not happen in the Dreamleet.

The clarity of the Dreamfleet's VC is significantly better than that of the Carenado - and the Dreamfleet was released several years ago.

The Carenado has no 2D panel (useful at times) whereas the Dreamfleet does.

In my install (which is automatic, BTW) the Carenado installs two Garmin 430s in the VC. Can this be right? Does the real Baron have two GPS units installed? The Dreamfleet has only one installed.

I have Reality XP gauges installed in my Dreamfleet - I dread to think what would happen to the Carenado if I installed them there!

Sorry, Carenado, but this aircraft just does not cut it for me even though it does fly nicely once you are airborne. I really do appreciate that you are continuing to support FS2004 but this time I feel that I have wasted my money with you. A refund do I hear? I don't think so - your Baron might fly but pigs certainly don't!

David,

I am locked at 30 FPS.

I see 29 FPS at busy FSDreamTeam KLAX.

No stutters, no problems with switches / FPS.

Just like all my other payware FS9.1 aircraft.

I also own the Dreamfleet Baron but I do not fly it any longer.

I also use RealityXp Garmins in my FS9.1 payware aircraft ... same good performance.

The Garmin 430's have your Com and Nav radios as well. So its common to see 2 units installed in an aircraft. I have done a retrofit with RXP, and replace one of the 430's with RXP and left the other one default. It works fine. You can use the RXP ini file to specify what radios the RXP unit takes over. When you program the RXP, it will push the flight plan to the FSX GPS which is really the same as the other default 430.

This aircraft has destroyed any decent FPS. VERY dissappointed.

I was thinking about purchasing this in the next few weeks, as I had just picked up the C337 and the F33 in the sale before Christmas and this would make a great hangar buddy to those.

I think it's slightly interesting though that with the C337, some people were reporting stutters and such as well, while others (such as myself) have had absolutely not a single issue with it. I wonder if perhaps there's some sort of config or machine specific issue or conflict that is affecting these Carenado backports?

I've always thought Carenado is hugely overrated. Oh, sure, they're pretty, but they're really no better than the default aircraft in terms of systems and flight modeling.

Okay - I retract my comments!! In full screen mode I get full FPS. If i go to windowed, minimised, then widen screen manually I get good FPS. However if going full windowed mode, the FPS are all over the place. Is it my system??

Does the FPS fluctuate only when the mouse is visible and over the VC?

Hello Jim, no regardless of mouse pointer position it stays the same- very low FPS and juddery

I am in windowed mode almost always. Full screen for some testing only.

Locked at 30 FPS.

It does 29 FPS .. with the Carenado and all my payware aircraft.

The only problem I see so far is the panel / landing light switches toggling each other.

I asked because on my machine, having the mouse on screen with certain planes (including many Carenado ones, but not only theirs) causes my FPS to drop, often by about 15 - 25 fps. I've never been able to isolate the issue, it happens with some planes from some designers and not with others. Happens in both FS9 and FSX too. I thought it might be your issue as well.

Jim, I've never heard of this issue with FS9, but this is a known FSX bug that was never fixed. Only fix for FSX is more CPU power.

Interesting read that you linked, I think I had read that awhile back trying to solve my problem. However, I most definately have this issue in FS9 - and while I can't comment on it occurring in the topic of this thread, I own the C337 for both platforms and it does it in both. I've learned to live with it though, it's just habit to move the mouse to another screen now :)

I installed FSX on a new Windows 7 (64) system last January and I have never experienced this mouse pointer phenom.
