Hi! And welcome!

Your arrival is refreshing. This place is in dire need of a gender shakeup.

Sent from my iPhone...typing errors imminent

Thanks, although I have to say, I don't take big issues with gender. I teach now, but before that I spent 20 years in a male dominated arena, and I tend to just see people as people, good and bad. I'm just here because I'm another 'late' student to the PPL game, and flight sim has proven a fantastic way of augmenting the learning process. People talk a lot about it not having the 'feel' etc, but for me, FSX has helped me hugely with practicing ground school elements, and particularly around;

- understanding and practicing basic instrument work

- some basic weather aspects

- circuit types

- reading and applying plates

- ICAO codes... dont forget, FSX has 29k airport codes in their, all real!

.... and perhaps most fun of all (and the reason why I only fly over MegaScenery stuff); visual referencing to VRPs.

So there is so much in this hobby that can help with the real endeavour of learning to fly.

Look at these guys! They're all slicking their hair back, rubbing their fingers across their teeth, straightening their ties! And the smell of fresh deodorant is over powering!

Edit to actually add something useful - if you're interested in photoscenery you may well want to have a look at Tileproxy (there is a subforum for it and have a search in the screenshot forum for it to get an idea of what it produces). Effectively you are getting almost the entire globe for free as it uses either Yahoo or Bing maps to inject their aerial/sat photography into the sim in real time as you fly along. You need a fast internet connection to make the most of it but it is more suited to flying low-and-slow than anything else. It's quite fiddly to get going so if you need some help either post up in the forum or pm one of us regular posters in that forum/

In my opinion, photoscenery stuff is flat and hardly worth the investment. I speak of people like Megascenery! While their products may be good if flying lifeless terrain is your thing, but there are more immersive alternatives.

It's a very subjective area.... like someone on another thread said, it's like music... we cannot necessarily empathize with eachother's choices and preferences.

To me, randomly generated textures and/or objects is just game-like, and of no interest to me whatsoever, no matter how immersive, beautiful or fun they may be ... they're just not real.

When I fly in FSX I am solely interested in the ground below me representing what is there in real life. Also, I have never used older photoscenery products but the latest ones (like MegScenery 2.0) are far from lifeless and flat in my view.... but as I said, each to their own.

I will program a virus printing that one and forcing it on every wall. That's the spirit!

Ok, back to what's the best plane/scenery in FSX. ^_^

That's easy! Baytower RV-7 and Orbx Swanson. Swanson because it has a DeLorean in it (or so I've heard), and the RV-7, well it just is. B)

And welcome Helen! More GA fans are always needed to counter the hordes of virtual bus drivers.

Helen, Lets set some things strait.

1st, and most important- I am the one and only queen here, you will be my servent until I promote you to a higher order

2nd. You are under my ruling, and my kingdom's higher anarchy dosen't come easy.

3rd. You are a lady surrounded with big pushy mindless men, and remember you can always outsmart them in their own game. Come to the queen for help.

Roger that!

Can't and will not argue that one. Summer1 posted her pic in the FS2004 forum trying to persuade us (quote) "old and dried out FS9 users" to move to FSX. I under stand FSX is the higher order but I'm not moving from FS2004 until the queen gets her tooth fixed like me.

I think us big pushy mindless men get it, but I often read in the queen's posts this:

TURN YOUR SLIDERS DOWN!

I've turned my volume all the way down to "muted", now what?

Over and Out!

RJ Just%20Kidding.gif <--- just kidding Summer1... I enjoyed your post

Ha ha, I'm good with that 'gal!

I was seriously wondering if I was the only female subscribed here, and wondering what I'd let myself in for!

Hi Helen and welcome,

I can highly recomend Carenado products for GA flying (it seems this is your forte), although they do not produce anything similar to the aircraft you are learning in.

In terms of flying, I am in a similar situation, about 2hrs in a Super Decathlon and 5 in C-172, not much but a start!

Regards,
