Do I have to disable Orbx when I fly in UTX/GEX areas?

Featured Replies

If I want to fly in another area covered by Ultimate Terrain with Ground Environment textures, do I have to disable Orbx scenery? If I don't will there be conflicting textures or will the Orbx textures be activated? I'm a little confused as to how these programs work if all are activated at the same time. Also if I disable Orbx, do I need to run the GEX program and install the textures again?

I've never had any issue flying outside the enabled Orbx region using GEX/UTX.

Also, if you switch FTX Central back to default FSX, you do not need to reinstall the GEX textures.

In NA, I've never had an issue going from Orbx to UTX/GEX, something I do regularly. Don't know about other regions, but it works seamlessly where I fly.

there is a conflict with ORBX and UTX nightlights, to correct it involves manually disabling UTX nightlights. although i'm not sure if setting ORBX to day and using UTX normally would address this problem.

I've had problems with inland bodies of water disappearing in UTX areas outside the Orbx area when Orbx scenery is active.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll just keep it disabled when I fly elsewhere. Wish I didn't have to. I do have the nightlight fixes installed for that region but was worried about texture conflicts.

there is a conflict with ORBX and UTX nightlights, to correct it involves manually disabling UTX nightlights.

Yes, but that's a conflict you need to fix for when you're in Orbx territory and have UTX, not for when you leave it.

I've had problems with inland bodies of water disappearing in UTX areas outside the Orbx area when Orbx scenery is active.

Bob, I've never seen this. Is this an occasional issue or something you see all the time?

Scott

Page 4 of the NRM Manual/Guide shows compatibility with UTX/Vancouver/GEX/REX/and any Third Party Terrain Mesh. As soon as you leave the boundries of a FTX product, the default textures will take over. I have not seen any anomalies when doing this but, if there are, the manual suggests you go to FTX Central and switch to the default. Unfortunately you will have to quit FSX as FTX Central will not open up while FSX is active.

Best regards,

Jim

I have seen some abnormalities with FTX and GEX such as in the Caribbean and Papua New Guinea (using PIS PNG Bush Pilot). So when I'm flying outside of the FTX world, I set my FTX Central to Default.

I've had problems with inland bodies of water disappearing in UTX areas outside the Orbx area when Orbx scenery is active.

UTX requires entries in the FSX Terrain.cfg file for it to work correctly. If you install OrbX products after UTX is installed, it replaces the entire FSX terrain.cfg with its own version when the FTX Central switch is on, thus removing all the required UTX entries. This means you will see issues with water being replaced by land throughout the UTX coverage area. Switching FTX Central back to off restores the previous FSX terrain.cfg which would have the UTX entries in it, and so things display correctly again.

Now, if you install UTX after OrbX, or re-run the UTX Setup Tool while the FTX Central switch is on, the required UTX entries get added into the OrbX version of the FSX Terrain.cfg. In this case, when you fly outside the OrbX coverage area into one covered by UTX, even though you still have the FTX Central switch on, UTX scenery should now display correctly.

Thanks Jeff...I've been operating constrained to only using one or the other for a long time because of the inland water issue--will have to give this a try.
