March 2, 201313 yr In the last few days Nerd has introduced me to sims I never even dreamed existed (and some that maybe shouldn't exist!) It seems there is a whole universe of obscure simulators out there (Which kind of puts the whole flight sim thing into perspective, doesn't it?) and this is one I had almost forgotten was on my drive. I got bored with it initially back in the day, but after seeing this I have started using it again. (I also had the horror of seeing him try a Surgery Simulator..... apparently there are two of them; the one he plays and a more serious one) Surgeon Simulator.... really??? (Yes, really) As usual with Nerd, more hilarity ensues than I would ever have seen in the sim myself, and now I will never see it the same way again. The usual warning for some occasional cussing. The video also ends in a way I would never have expected, since it would never have occurred to me to do the things he does in the first place! Funny guy. . We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. March 3, 201313 yr Author RTFM? What the feck is that? Typical 'simmer' though, too bloody lazy to actually look at the very short instructions. Honestly, his babbling is just annoying. Yet the studies show that most people don't read manuals, and most store returns for broken items (that aren't really broken) stem from that. He reviews the way a large number of people are actually going to experience the sim, at least at first, and that's why people like him so much. A good review from him can cause a surge in game sales, and something like train simulator, that a lot of folks would normally never touch, suddenly looks funny and approachable. I suspect his review of Aerofly gave the sim a nice little boost too, at least for a little while. Such is life. Plus who else could have gotten you to watch over an hour of Truck Simulator? We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... March 3, 201313 yr I suspect his review of Aerofly gave the sim a nice little boost, at least for a little while. I thought that one was funny, he gives it that human touch with all the errors from his keyboard flying, He just dove right in and was just having a lot of fun with it. A hardcore simmer would have just beaten up the lack of features or disappointments they found with that sim, He just had fun with it. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

A hardcore simmer would have just beaten up the lack of features or disappointments they found with that sim, He just had fun with it. I was thinking about that earlier today when I was looking over some sales figures and other numbers about the huge (and surprising to me) popularity of Farm Simulator. I also looked at the number of reviews, vids and mods and was impressed by what seems a very healthy community. It made me wonder what the worldwide numbers for ""serious" flight sims might be if the hobby presented itself with even slightly less..... gravity. There is even a Farm Simulator Flying mod With Carbon Cubs and others, for goodness sake. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... I will admit I have been eyeing the Farm Simulator since I first seen it....I think today is the day I will get it (clicking in Steam my account right now) Edit: Yep, it's downloading now, I got the Mod tools as well so I can modify it....Looks like I just bought a farm LOL   Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

March 4, 201313 yr I guess I've worked in a factory with a male-dominated workforce for too long. His "colorful" language didn't even phase me, I had to go back and listen again to hear it. He cracks me up although if you watch a couple of his videos in a row you start to get the feeling that he really likes to hear himself talk.
March 4, 201313 yr As usual with Nerd, more hilarity ensues than I would ever have seen in the sim myself, and now I will never see it the same way again Kinda reminds me of My Drunk Kitchen http://hartoandco.com/my-drunk-kitchen/ . Really funny once, but... The second or third time you watch this guy "goof on a game", I dunno. The schtick wears a bit thin. Did enjoy his FSX vid, but that was partly because it was the first time I'd seen the guy. Watched a few others and the chuckles started to die down. It made me wonder what the worldwide numbers for ""serious" flight sims might be if the hobby presented itself with even slightly less..... gravity. Well then, they wouldn't be "serious" flight sims, now would they? B) Seriously <cough> - most of the world doesn't give a rip whether I'm serious or not and I like it that way just fine. Most of the game market wants - games, whether they call themselves sims or something else and that's also just fine. I like the idea of less gravity, though. Makes the flying easier. Scott

Scott What on earth is a "serious" flight sim though? It seems like such a moving target, doesn't it? Especially since something that was clearly a sim just a few years ago can fail to qualify now. (Think of any "Sim" we grew up with, which would be a pathetic game in our current understanding) I've even heard whispers of FSX being too "arcadey" I'm on Nerds side. I think he takes something that has become synonymous with boredom in the wider world and presents it to an audience of hundreds of thousands in a way that inspires interest. It seems sometimes a spoonful of sugar really does help the medicine go down! At least I hope so. And anything that might attract more people to give this hobby a shot, I'm for. March 5, 201313 yr What on earth is a "serious" flight sim though? Dunno, really, but that was at least part of my point. I don't know and trying to focus on that label doesn't much matter to me. You seem to want to take the "serious" (whatever that means to you) out of flight simulation in order to attract a larger audience. As I've said before, I don't think most mass audiences want reality in current games, they want uber reality. That's not criticism or elitism or anything else, it's just an observation that anything which attempts to accurately model any detailed real-world activity is likely to be of interest only to a limited audience. That mirrors many things in life. Enthusiasts in any arena will care about things that make non-enthusiasts yawn, and that's OK. We can't live our lives being defined only by what has enough mass-appeal to be sold at Walmart, even if we ourselves buy much of our stuff there. I'm on Nerds side. I think he takes something that has become synonymous with boredom in the wider world and presents it to an audience of hundreds of thousands in a way that inspires interest. I think you're making an awful lot of a guy who's simply found a nice niche doing send-ups of games. It seems sometimes a spoonful of sugar really does help the medicine go down! Always. But your medicine is someone else's rare treat. Anyway, I've never been much of a sugar guy myself. I'll always pass up desert for a really good main course. Scott
