Has anyone tried the free osm/photo scenery from SimHeaven.com?

Featured Replies

I just download asia ( Hong Kong ) photo scenery from www.http://simheaven.com/?page_id=8 and copy the whole folder into x plane 10 /Custom Scenery folder , also the scenery_packs inside  Custom Scenery folder have added the name of Hong Kong scenery name . Starting the game and it said " I found an area with no scenery ...... The missing file is +20+110/+20+112.dsf "

Under xplane10/Global Scenery/X-Plane 10 Global Scenery/Earth nav data I can found the missing file +20+110 dsf and +20+112.dsf file but in Hong Kong Scenery folder  this two files is not found , can someone help me solve this problem?

I downloaded a bunch of Ireland and it was very heterogeneous.  I do appreciate the effort the site has put forth, but It looks like wherever the underlying orthophotos are bad due to weather variations etc...the end product will be quite coarse.

+1 for the bland colour and wash out looks. Even the sky looks dreary on a sunny day. I chose day setting and when I am in the sim, it still feels like overcast.

Have you tried raising your Gamma setting? I have mine at 2.8 instead of 2.2.... it brightens up the day.

That's the issue with free photoscenery, you're at the mercy of freely available photo imagery which generally isn't the best of quality, although I've found some very high quality areas in Europe. You'll often get banding, discoloration, etc, which is due to the fact that the entire area wasn't photographed on the same day, in the same weather, and even at the same time of year.

Yes  all are not same. and hate it when the photo scenery contains clouds causing white patches, so I have stopped using Photo scenery , the only ones I use are Berlin / Switzerland / Netherlands.

Have couple of Z17 but it looked bad like NY  / Toronto.

Quite a few are good from simheaven. But I use a few from Zone Free Rotterdam (as simheaven does not have it). And a few for Switzerland.

Yes all power to SimHeaven and the great efforts and some fantastic PhotoScenery.

Maybe we might get a list together of all the very good Photo scenery and the not so good.

Would that be ok? Or would it be over stepping the line?
