AOTD for 3/12/13 - Oh Deere

Featured Replies

I've tried a number of times since about 1430 hrs. today to see what the AOTD for today was, but it's still not up.  Really weird thing just happened. I went to the Flight site, and it showed the AOTD as Oh Deere and something about finding a tractor. When I went to the aerocache page, it had reverted to Iditarod 3- Yentna

It may or may not come up tonight. If it does, enjoy the flight. If not, I'll look again in the morning and if it's up, I'll post it.

Stay tuned. :P

OK. Now it's up. Find a tractor in Terrace B.C. This should be interesting.

Enjoy.

Thank you.

Rick

Well, good luck finding it! I flew over the entire town about a dozen times and did not see any tractor. But, then, it could have been covered by snow.

What I did see is this strange ground texture - can't figure out what it is down there off to my left. Maybe I should come back in the Spring and take another look.

And this does not look like a tractor to me, but maybe they're different up in the Far North!

Tight fit, but here it is. I flew a search grid and finally got a ping right under me.

I guess John Deere's are red in the far North. Down here, they are all green. John Deere Green that is.

Thank you.

Looks like Massey Ferguson red to me............     It even has the white stripe along the top edge of the bonnet (hood) like a Massey.

I am pretty sure they missed that one, don't think there is such a thing as a red John Deere... but it is a catchy title.

Luis - Try flying this one at night. It makes the aerocache marker easier to spot especially in winter.  I got tired of looking at all the white so I changed  to spring. I flew the mission this morning and even with it dark outside, it still took me a while to find the cache. I also had to land and taxi very close to the tractor to get it to register.

Thank you.

I flew it at dusk/night by the time I arrived at Terrace. I can't believe a town so far off the grid was done so well the lights are even on .

:LMAO:  Thanks, Rick, I got it.

But, it was over the cultivator in the screenshot. I'm surprised nobody else got that, instead of the tractor. Maybe the tractor only shows up in the Spring and Summer and the cultivator appears in the Winter.

Best regards.

Hi Folks

Luis was at exactly the correct place.

The tractor is not there in winter,
but is in summer.      ^_^

EDIT
Luis posted after I'd opened this window.

I had to get low and was almost in a tree, just cleared it! Came around and landed.

Well everybody knows that you always put the tractor in the barn in the winter. Can't have all that nasty snow and ice getting on it. As for the cultivator, it doesn't really matter. Nobody hoses those off after using anyway.

Here's some of my shots:

I got this one without too much trouble with the Avsim Cub.

I flew a perimeter around the edge of the town, and spotted it out my left side window. The tractor was there as well - though not a Deere by any means - and was able to snag it from the air.

Serendipity! What a great word.

If you look closely, you will see some fascinating things.

First, the roof displays seasonal change, there is snow on top in the Winter. Yes, you have noticed it before, but this is new for this version of FS, objects have seasonal changes.

Secondly, the object itself can change from one season to the next. A tractor from Spring through Fall, and then a cultivator. Fascinating!

And finally, look carefully at the house. It has flipped! In the Winter, it is not oriented in the same way as in the other seasons. Incredible. What is this all about? What were the artists planning for this game?

Oh, for an S.D.K. and explanations! Paul, please, what do you think was going through their heads?

Best regards.

Luis

I don't know if this is just me, but I noticed in your screenshots that the ground textures changed going from season to season (obviously winter would have the largest change). This makes me think... is it possible in any sim to have tree leaves fall to the ground, and stay on the ground during the duration of the sim time?
