April 1, 201313 yr Also I do definitely know that you have to push or pull the knobs to get a result Russell When I am setting various altitudes on the FCP to climb to such as 5000, 12000, 23000, and 34000 as I am cleared by ATC to climb to, I don't push or pull the altitude knob, I only rotate it on the left or right of the button by left clicking to go down or right clicking to go up. I never touch the altitude button with the mouse, Speed, altimeter, etc require pushing and pulling but I don't do it with the altitude. Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
April 1, 201313 yr Can someone give me a definitive answer as to whether the FCP altitude should ALWAYS stop the plane at that point when descending or climbing when on autopilot? Yes you did that correct. You may have used a different takeoff procedure than most of us here but the plane has to stop at the FCP altitude, both in prof and level change mode. Tot eh push pulll thing. You do not pull in prof mode but for it doesn't really matter at the moment. The plane should stop! I got a question, is it if even the autopilot is on? I had a plane once that had a great autopilot, the problem though was that the plane never listened to it. No matter what I entered the plane totally continued uncontrolled. It didn't control any surface at all, just appeard to be controlling it. Might that be the case here? Manfred G. Ships are cooler that you think.
April 1, 201313 yr Author Michael thanks for that clarification... That was my understanding how it worked normally in my case I have only been pushing and pulling to try get plane to respond to input.. Knowing how it SHOULD behave is really helpful thanks again Note Started the tutorial one following to the letter First error after fms weigh init CRZ FL ABOVE MAX FL Opt/max show as 325/343 on performance page one.... So I Have to deviate from the tutorial already... Why is this? Plane too heavy for sure I'm guessing the fms weights are entered manually or by right clicking and are inputting Kilo not pounds and tutorial is in pounds despite asking me to change to metric settings earlier... Either way this is not helpful in a starter tutorial.. Fuel load shows 77k kg which is approx 150000 pounds that's way over weight for a 70 min flight for sure? There's a nagging thought in my head as to whether this may have something to do with the problem... More later I'm going to fly overweight and lower CRZ instead.. Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk 2 Changed CRZ height now next error is Max lw 207.7 it shows as 242.4 in fms.. So plane Is overloaded but are the numbers in fms metric Or pounds now I've used the pmdg settings to change to metric Exactly as instructed.. Sorry for the bad Grammer thank u tab typing I'm going into in sim fuel options to set for 1/3 fuel which is approx Half of what I have now so close to a kg/pounds conversion this means I can put cruise back to tutorial instructed level Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk 2 Russell Gough SE London
April 1, 201313 yr Author Ok I can quit the tutorial now :( It all seemed to be going well approaching the 6000 ft fcp setting used in tutorial Gear up slats retracted speed brakes disarmed then... Dang... Altitude is annunciated as expected plane climbs to 6500 then descends 200 FT Then MCT thrust is shown the stall clicker starts rattling and plane starts it's inevitable climb of doom once more completely ignoring the fcp restriction At this point I've been here done that enough times to give up Absolutely no user error unless the tutorial is wrong and apart from the kg Issue it looks fine to me... So my plane is buggered on my system Just this one no other plane... Should I post this as a support ticket I thought this Was the place so apologize if it's not Thanks for all your help but recommend you not book seats with Sloppy Airlines Whenever you notice we are using the MD-11 Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk 2 Russell Gough SE London
April 1, 201313 yr Author Thanks Sandpatch just noticed your post now I am continuing my much anticipated manual world tour with this plane.. No sarcasm here it will be fun and challenging! Glad you agreed with that point... Hmm the autopilot thinks it's working but it's not... Lateral navigation is perfect vertical is useless here so it's not all bad except I'd rather fly totally manual than with a defective autopilot... Dear 737 NGX I'm so sorry I fooled around and played the field can we kiss and make up? I miss your reliability this new Chick wasn't worth losing your perfection Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk 2 Russell Gough SE London
April 1, 201313 yr As as been pointed out by other posters. if you set an altitude and pull the knob, or simply push the knob for altitude hold, this should override the FMS and you should aquire and hold that altitude. If your plane cannot do that you have a major problem. I would submit a support ticket to PMDG. I also have all my joystick/button assignments through FSUIPC and have "joytick disabled" set in the sim so that should not be an issue. Peter Peter Schluter
April 1, 201313 yr Author registered and selected SUBMIT NEW TICKET at PMDG forum but all i get is the the following page i DONT want reactivate I want a tech support issue solved... 'Please go back and choose the re-download department if that's what you need.' ??!! GO BACK WHERE? this is the first and only page I can access using google chrome - trying again with IE Nope same result the initial SUBMIT A TICKET Send a ticket to a department gives you no option to select a department EXCEPT the re-registration. is there a support forum for the PMDG support forum? Am going to post my problem there anyway as they say they dont accept emails and I want support for my expensive product **IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR TICKET!**This department is for reactivation of licenses that have exceeded their maximum activations. It is *not* for requesting re-downloads. Please go back and choose the re-download department if that's what you need.If you are submitting a license reactivation request for the 747 or MD-11 products, please first verify that you are using the following information to validate:- Your PMDG Store Account's email address- Your 5 or 6 digit Order ID for the product- Your PMDG Store Account's password Russell Gough SE London
April 1, 201313 yr There is a support option instead of reactivation. But since you didnt remove the pmdg MD11 folders before in the root and in simobjects/aircraft your md11 didnt completely uninstall. Therefore the problem if it is caused by a corrupt installation would remain. Try a reinstall after a proper uninstall. You will need to reactivate which is a good thing, as if the product didnt activate properly will also cause issues. I think everyone has covered the appropriate suggestions to alleviate your issues, but its no avail so far, so I would go with this method. If you submit a support ticket you most likely will get this response. Totally up to you. Be sure that the MD11 works, so its not a faulty product. April 1, 201313 yr Author Thanks HighTowers I had no problem with registration. Submitted a ticket tho... I just had an interesting question http://imgur.com/a/dBoVy#19 in above pic cabin pressure shows only around 800 when it should show around 6000 at that altitude? wonder if plane thinks its much lower than it is explaining silly climb rate or if it does not know the altitude at all agreed will wait on PMDG for response...will uninstall completely and reinstall in the meantime and yes im sure it is not a faulty product as Im the only person with the problem! RG I dont think pressurization errors would cause rocketship climbs. I still think (and its strictly a guess as good as my guesses are... not) That its something to do with your loading of the plane and your CG. On your first pic I ran the numbers of your init and fuel through topcat and the LW comes out quite different. Which is why you have a constant LW error msg throughout your flight. Plus your CG was not setup properly even though its green. All aircraft are sensitive to CG but the MD11 even more so. Your takeoff page says 5.4 then put 5.4. Its digital so not difficult to do. Are you using the pmdg load planner to load the plane? or Topcat? you gotta make sure your numbers are all in tune and done disagree by a large amount or screwy things will happen especially with this bird. If all is in order, there should be no issues. Whoops, this is assuming ive matched your correct aircraft version. April 2, 201313 yr Author Hey HighTowers did you see my reply about the tutorial and the kg/pound issue? I make sure the weights match the load manager...and if you right click them they give the same numbers...is it possible the right click numbers are in kg and not pounds? When i first did the tutorial and the fms gave an error i looked online and someone said the FMS itself has to be set for kg vs pounds but have not found how to do it or even if this is possible...can you or someone give a definitive answer to that? ie when plane configured metric is FMS auto configured to use kg? or does it have to be set to pounds.? that would cause a serious error for sure although surely the right clicking 'cheat' would allow for that thanks for your continued patience with me...even though im well into my manual world tour i intend to crack this! BTW my first semi-auto flight lst night from Heathrow to Paris was excellent fun! I didnt touch the profile or altitude selectors at all. Programmed the FMS fully as usual and used NAV and FMS speed along with manual yoke to control vertical control. Couldnt use any manual trimming as even one touch of the stab shut off the AP...but the climb predicted TOC at 900pm and i was there exactly on time! WOW.. Descent and ILS landing were a breeze too....so I still love the plane Russell Gough SE London
April 2, 201313 yr Author Wow it finally leveled off for first time in a flight and seems to be working fine.. Will post what I did after I land safely too excited right now to type on this tablet I need it for the approach plates... Seems to have been kg pounds setting not behaving until I made numerous changes... I suspected this after I got always got errors following the tutorial to the letter... More later I got a short field landing to make Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk 2 Russell Gough SE London
April 2, 201313 yr Author Well that was exciting... Ap disconnected right before flare on auto land so a quick grab of yoke for manual flare and my first auto flight with this bird completed normally.. Now I'm going to fly a longer than 60 mile flight to test with a decent cruise altitude but seems fine... Whole plane kind of felt different.. Most noticeably with flaps 50 I got a very noticeable rattle coming down slow.. Maybe the flaps were not working right before hence overspeed slats warnings? I reinstalled the plane this time deleting the empty md 11 folder and used load manager to set pounds and also the in sim options to do the same... That's when I noticed that the plane displays were still showing weights in kg... Set options in both load managers to pounds twice more and plane then showed pounds on display... The figures shown were same numbers so that explains why plane struggled to fly before Does not explain why plane ignored fcp altitude and fms directions tho... Hence why took so long to diagnose... Am still cautious to consider this solved until I've made some more flights but one thing for sure I am Never using the kg settings again wherever in world I am.. If it's stable now then those non us airspaces can get bent! Ironic that I'm an ex brit yet I prefer the archaic imperial system.. Thanks everyone for your considerable patience here fingers crossed that all is now working... Will confirm after a longer flight using fcp altitude knob changes (pilot abuse of plane..) In fact I will be abusing the plane just to test it does what I tel it to do.. Ok enough typing finally some flying! RG Sent from my GT-P3113 using Tapatalk 2 Russell Gough SE London
April 2, 201313 yr Author Ok I'm convinced all is Ok with the bird.. Like I said before plane feels and sounds different... On takeoff roll it bumped up and down on the runway... I could hear the packs clearly instead of just the engines before.. I know they shut down for takeoff but they didn't seem to come back on before... So confident was I after takeoff that I went and made my first in flight meal with this plane which I ate without stress during my first step climb 320/340/360 which was performed flawlessly.. I then tested the plane by inputting a 360/380/400 step which took it over its max FL and got correct fms warnings but I set 39000 on the fcp and it leveled off as it should there... Now it's descending while I write this to what should be a challenging visual at LIMW where for once I Plan to take over manual control..... TBC after landing.... .... Mmmm wow again not a recommended landing site for this plane with 60000 pounds of fuel on board... Plane quit fms descent at 8000...airfield at 2000 so went around for hairy manual at idle with spoilers then full flaps then full thrust then idle then max brake then reverse thrust and I'm now sat 10 feet from end of runway enjoying the tree view.... Ok I know I can't do with this what I can in the 737 600 but I do love a successful emergency landing ... Ok will mark this problem as solved later once I work out how to do it... Now I'm going to get me an FUI to celebrate and fly out this valley somewhere BIG... Gimme a 12000 footer cos I will be using BAC.... Beer assisted control! April 2, 201313 yr Author OK officially solved Ran this bird thru every possible abuse I cold give it (like the NGX before it) and it passed.. ..finished off with LIMW to LSZS...all fine except decided against another silly descent landing so did my first divert to LOWI...INNSBRUCK! (ahhh memories of the 737 advanced tutorial...) ...adding WPs enroute i passed my final one before entering approach so had to add a direct to the STAR entry...then cut it short to save time...then of course ATC put me on 8 instead of the easy 26 RNAV approach...so once more added waypoint/another star....descent looked like an early mountain landing (done those FSX missions already) so pulled the altitude knob...YES of course it leveled off then back on approach with just the A/T to assist...sweet landing despite my heart rate at 150(!) ...marking this issue SOLVED now and once more a final thanks for all your patience...bizarre error for sure and I hope no one else gets it Now I have the sweet choice of 737 vs MD-11 on future flights...AFTER of course Ive done my world tour with the MD...the manual tour is OFF!
