UT2 no ocean traffic vs Mytraffic X

Featured Replies

I am thinking of moving from UT2 to MyTraffic X pro as UT has a bug in that traffic disappears over large bodies of water. There is no word yet from the devs as to whether this will be fixed. So when flying NATS i am on my own! Does My Traffic X pro have the same issue?

I do like the aircraft models in UT2 but can never match what i seeing in FSX to the timetables. Is Mytrafficx pro easier?

I'e never researched so deeply, but from what I ead, MTX flightplans are direct routes between airports A and B, so you might be alone on NATS flights with MTX, too. (I have to say that I usually only fly either in Europe, where this isn't really a problem, because there's airways neraly everywhere, or on the West Coast of the US, where I mostly fly GA, and hence I don't care about that either.)

Also I can't comment on the schedules, because I don't care as long as it looks realistic, but I've heard people complaining about inaccurate schedules in MTX.

Another definite downside of MTX is, as you said yourself, the model quality. The models are not that nice, but you get a lot more planes, especially more "exotic" ones.

Anyways, if you decide to get My Traffic, make sure to get 5.4 and not 2013, as this one is kind of "downgraded" by Aerosoft (i.e. reduced variety of planes and liveries).

I use UT2, and traffic is hard to find over oceans, but once in a while, I'll see a plane going my direction or against it.

I went with MyTraffic X 5.4b mainly because of this ocean traffic issue.  Not so much that I care about ocean traffic, but rather there is no fix because the developer is gone; which means UT2 is basically a dead, unsupported product in my mind.  I did some research and the developer of MyTraffic X is very active and is routinely on the support forums for his product. So if something needs improving or fixing I figure MyTraffic will get it done.

You can just install MyTraffic and go; however, it does require a fair amount of work if you demand specific schedules and such.  Whereas UT2 is more of a play and go and has real-time schedules right off the bat.

thanks thats good to hear. I would like realistic schedules, is there a guide or manual on how to set that up? How good is the AI do you find?

MyTraffic X does come with a manual as well as software for developing routes and such.  I haven't used it for long and have just being using it with the installed standard traffic so unfortunately I can't speak to how hard it would be to set up.  Though I would think trying to set up schedules for all airlines at multiple airports might be a rather daunting task.

And while I haven't used it and can't say anything about it, the developer does have an add-on product called MyTraffic Live that will inject real-time live airline traffic information into the software. Which if you demand real world traffic patters, that might be an option to get as well if you go with MyTraffic X.  Of course I'd do some Internet researching to see if the product works as described.

Thanks for the info. Did you say it will give traffic over oceans?

If you have already UT2 and now switch to MTX you could also use both together as I do in the moment. There is an option in the MTX Communicator which allows you to combine best of both. See also: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/61456-welcome-to-ultimate-traffic-2/

Though, this will probably not help with the disappearing issue. Sorry, to be a little off-topic.

how is UT2 meant to know what tracks you are using ? when airlines dont until the tracks are published.

and considering 99% percent of people I see flying on vatsim are using old  or incorrect tracks, or tracks that arent even in use at the time they are flying.  So if simmers dont understand how tracks be it the A tracks or z tracks work, lord knows how UT is going to

The reason you won't see much traffic in UT2, or any other traffic addon, over the pond, is UT2 will only spawn traffic no greater then a 50nm (depending on settings) radius. There is a lot less traffic all going the same or opposite direction,  transocean  then transcontinental which comes in all directions and follows airways. So your chance of seeing it is that much less. Addons that use FSX type traffic BGL's, have a wider radius, (I believe 120nm) however as has been mentioned above, usually fly direct, so you will probably be well North of their positions flying NAT's

Edit: Also since UT2 follows real world schedules, you are less likely to run into opposing traffic. As usually Westbound flights are in the daytime, while Eastbound flights are more at night!!

Thanks

Actually Ultimate Traffic 2 has a bug/unmentioned flaw that makes all traffic disappear when they get far enough from land, this bug was discovered just some months ago or so and also acknowledged by Flight 1.

All that missing traffic does reappear when it gets near land again so probably this isn't a huge deal for most people.

the Med is probably a better example. It isnt particularly wide at some points but traffic still disappears.

Actually what i really dislike about UT2 is a traffic refreshed every time I go into the FSX menu.
