April 6, 201313 yr That's quite interesting for me, and the first time I hear something like that. Maybe we should investigate this becouse we have pretty similar systems: what addons do you use, planes and scenery? What settings you have? Tweaks and settings applied? Online flying, Maddog shared cockpit etc? Zeljko Budovic
April 6, 201313 yr Regards Accelerations Versus SP2. I dont use acceleration cause, If like me you use simulation rate increase, your a/c is likely to spin out of control with acceleration patch. Anything more than 2x accel is likely spin out. I use sim rate for all long haul, as much as 16x somtimes, so accel patch not for me
April 6, 201313 yr @@Simmer2050 - that can be becouse of different atmosphere with acceleration, planes don't perform in the same way. That can be observed with a very fast planes, you can see the second post here in this thread: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/67680-fsx-acceleration-vs-native-sp2/ It appears there was more posts and users with acceleration problems in last 5 years  Now back to the topic, the best way to get stable fsx in my experience is to tune Windows 7 and install FSX + SP2 like in Nick's N. guide, on simforums. After that, there are very few good guides about fsx setings and tweaking. If you wan't to use DX9, use Word Not Allowed's guide, or Steve's guide here on avsim if you wan't to use DX10. All gudes can be found by google easily. Than apply this Microsoft helper/fix which helps to prevent OOM errors in windows 7 64bit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947246 And when flying, disable all scenery which is not required for that flight, you'll never need more than two continents and 2 or 3 addon airports(if you want to use addon for alternative arrival). If not disabled, fsx will load all active scenery, which is a waste of resources. That work's best for me, very smooth sim with tons of addons. No CTD, no OOM for a very long time. Finally, my two "on topic" cents Zeljko Budovic
April 7, 201313 yr Author Well , I got myself a 3 tb external drive , seagate backup + , Windows will not do a back up to it stating io fault . Having done a little research windows can't unless you re format the drive , I deleted the drive in the computers drive manager & got a partition. One of 726 gig the other the remainder of the 3 tb , I cannot for all my attempts get it back to a single 3 tb partition. So I still haven't backed up Windows & I still haven't started my fsx re install , I'm getting very frustrated. Any one else had this & got round it , thanks.
Paul Sleight
April 8, 201313 yr Open Disk Manager, plug in drive, give it a drive letter, allocate all of the disk, and quick format. Done. I use Win7 Image backup to a 1TB drive. Works great! Once a botched update on my C drive made it unusable. I booted up my repair disk, formatted the C drive and did an Image Restore. Did a Windows, Adobe, Java, Update Copied over my current FSX.CFG and everything was back to normal, and still is. Dave

Did your info to format come from seagate? all you should have to do is run the sea gate scan disk and that gives you all the options, shouldn't take more than a few minutes ZORAN
April 8, 201313 yr Author Yes it was on there help forum & said if you didn't need to ever plug it into an xp op system then reformat the drive , western digital also say so on thee forum/help , wd tool doesn't even find the disc. Seagate software I set it to delete the data in the smaller partition , it said 2 hours , I left it for 3 , went back to it the green progress bar was half way across & it still said 2 hours. Why can't I just format the damm drive & get 3tb.
Paul Sleight

If yes, what is your current instaled Intel RST driver? - What is your BIOS version? - Did you tried to apply this metod: http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=OX6CGDVUYrA&feature=youtu.be Zeljko Budovic
April 8, 201313 yr Author Checked out the YouTube link , thanks . When I click on the extended drive tab in the seagate software it comes back & says there is no extended drive attached to this pc & to use a different tool. I think I do have intel rapid storage installed , I will check , I've done so much installing of late with the op system & updates I can't remember . The BIOS is the one that shipped with my mobo overclocked bundle & devoid the warranty if I do a BIOS upgrade , I'm not sure which one it is but its at least 6 months old. I think maybe if I haf done the extended drive thing first I probably wouldn't be having the isues I'm now having. Thanks.
Paul Sleight

I asked you becouse there are some conditions for 3TB HDD to works, i found now the link: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/218619en/?q=3TB&language=en_US&c=Products%3ASerial_ATA_Drives_Seagate_Barracuda&fs=Search&pn=1 Check your BIOS and Intel RST driver, and update if necesary. Check others steps too. I'm sure you can ask your store for support if something is not updated, they should do this anyway. Check the link, intel RST driver must be at least v10.1 I run into a trouble recently when i replaced my SSD with HDD, becouse i needed more space for fsx addons. So I recently read about hard drives and i remembered this detail for more than 2.2TB to be unlocked/supported :good: Zeljko Budovic
April 8, 201313 yr Author Thanks ever so much for your help , I went through the seagate tutorials , used the seagate disc wizard. I've now got the full size partition . I just ran the back up software but unfortunately I'm still getting a failed win 7 backup due to io error.
Paul Sleight
April 8, 201313 yr Author Had to format in exfat with 512 sectors , win 7 backups now working. But I cannot do a system image as its not a ntfs file system. Burning a system image to dvd discs. Thanks for your help , once this is done I can start my fsx install.
Paul Sleight
April 8, 201313 yr No problem. I use Acronis true image for backup, it saved me a couple of times. And it's a great, reliable tool. Never had problems with backup files and you can restore whole system in 20-30min. The latest version(2013)has some problems in windows 7, but 2011 version works great Zeljko Budovic
