April 3, 201313 yr Hi all., after having some issues , thanks to a registry cleaner , & a full repair not correcting the problems I have now re installed win 7 ultimate 64 bit back on my ssd , I'm now ready to re install fsx & all my add ons onto my vrap drive , I know its important to install as administrator & anti virus had to be off , I also know to install fsx & run it , do the default flight , close it , restart pc , install acceleration , run it do default flight , close it then restart . Then , now here's the question , is it best to install all my add on aircraft first or all my add on scenery or does it not matter which order it goes in , I will be doing 1 install at a time , running the sim with that add on then closing & restarting the pc. Thanks in advance for any help.
Paul Sleight
April 3, 201313 yr I wouldn't think in terms of aircraft or scenery first, but rather installing the most complex addons first, then the least complex last. This way, if a significant problem does occur, you've addressed it early on in the process. Curt Branch
April 3, 201313 yr A registry cleaner should not have affected the installation of your FSX or any of its addons or Windows 7. It just does not have that capability to destroy installations. There are some people who say they are computer experts who do not like registry cleaners though. If they were really harmful, I doubt anyone would be downloading and using one of them. They will make your computer run better and more efficiently as Windows does not have the power to remove old stuff all of the time. Your anti-virus program can destroy installations though if you are not careful. Anti-virus programs do not like anything messing around with the system registry. They try to prevent those types of tasks to save you from evil people. I personally do not use an anti-virus program. I just went through a reinstallation of Windows 7 and FSX and, after a couple of months, I'm almost back to where I was before. The hardest problem I had was installing simconnect (it is installed with the SDK) and getting it to work properly. At least AS2012 had problems with it. It's such a simple task too. Really upset me as I had no problems in the past. Make sure you have your User Access Controls disabled at least during the installation. I don't think there is any good method for installing addons. Personally I like the PMDG737 so that was the first one I installed. I also liked my Orbx/FTX scenery so that was one of the first reinstalls too. I flew around with that for a while then started installing another of my favorites, the FSDT airports and GSX. Played around with those for a while then started adding other aircraft I bought or installing my MegaSceneryEarth V2 States. I think just taking your time is the best method. April 3, 201313 yr Author I was advised by the vox atc help team that a registry cleaner had taken some vital conponents out & that I would never get vox atc working again unless I did a new windows install. Hence here I am , rather upset to be honest as only a month back my fsx was the best I've ever had it & I did some great vids with frapps that I have on my YouTube account , my Kaspersky labs has not once found any virus or malware , but something was glitchy as sometimes my creative sound card drivers kept having to be re installed , I recently found my site x 52 pro settings had changed themselves , sometimes is launch fsx & the cfg file had gone , I had a backup so just put it back in . Hopefully this time I can get it stable , I am thinning my install a little & I will take the advice & do the complex ones first , thanks.
Paul Sleight
April 4, 201313 yr I was advised by the vox atc help team that a registry cleaner had taken some vital conponents out & that I would never get vox atc working again unless I did a new windows install. That's a shame you were given that reason for vox atc not working. I use a registry cleaner about twice a week and have never had any problems. That was a lot of work you had to do to reinstall Windows and FSX. I think you should have sought a second opinion first. But spilled milk. Good luck on your new install. April 4, 201313 yr I will soon have to reinstall FSX due to me getting new hardware. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Matthew
April 4, 201313 yr Biggest tip I can give anyone doing reinstall is this GET A GOOD Image backup Program. I use O&O diskimage. Make a startup usb stick or cd and practice restoring from backup, so you know how to use it before failure. And try to make use of incremental images cause they will encourage you to make more frequent backups. In final stages of fsx setup after reinstall. Along the way updated my Mobo bios and system failed to boot afterwards, was saved by o&o diskimage. Never had issue with gigabyte bios update before. Make backups during the install, not just when its complete, Try to keep Windows on its own drive and fsx on its own drive, everything else on third drive. You only need to backup win drive and fsx drive, as they are most likely to have issues. Keeping size of those 2 drives down will also help speedy backup process. I will soon have to reinstall FSX due to me getting new hardware. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk There is a feature in latest version of O&O diskimage that I think is designed to allow you to make backup and restore to different PC. I have not used this feature as mine was to same PC, but it worth looking into before you sign off current hardware

April 4, 201313 yr Author I have been using system mechanic for a few years now , it was recommended to me from somewhere within the fsx community of developers , can't remember who though , never had a problem with it before though . I did ask on the vox atc forum about trying to get the program working again but got no replies.& yes I'm going to get an external 1tb drive & start doing regular backups now . I haven't started my fsx install yet just done all my windows install + updates on my ssd drive , need to format my vrap drive now for new fsx install. Thanks everyone.
Paul Sleight
April 4, 201313 yr Commercial Member If you ever plan, or there is a possibility that you will want to fly shared cockpit then save yourself having to reinstall again by installing FSX Deluxe rather then Acceleration. About 70% of the time Acceleration doesn't perform a good install of Simconnect leading to problems with Shared Cockpit, ActiveSky, and other addons. You'll hear people say this isn't true, but they're either in the 30% (not good odds) or they aren't noticing the problems because of what they have installed or HOW it is setup. 700 hours of grooming countless systems and seeing problems with Acceleration time after time after time, and I just won't debate this anymore. Anyway, just thought I'd help prevent another reinstall - it's painful, especially if you have a number of addons. April 4, 201313 yr Commercial Member Just a tip - if you have the room, make a few backup copies of your installs. I have backup copies of FSX in various states, from clean to orbx installed. They don't always help fix a screw up, but if they do, it's great. Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
April 4, 201313 yr Author My box set is the fsx gold edition , fsx + acceleration , are you suggesting I would be better buying the deluxe edition ? I thought I had the best box set but if not I will go and get it. Thanks. So what is the difference between the gold set & the deluxe set please ?
Paul Sleight
April 4, 201313 yr Commercial Member I can't vouch for much regarding the info given to you about deluxe vs. acceleration, but I do know that I couldn't do without acceleration - there are quite a few addons that i use that require it. Jim Stewart Milviz Person.

Instal both of them and there's no need to install SP1 and SP2 separately. Gerry Howard
