April 5, 201313 yr Have flown MD11 many times with no EGT probs. On my last flight while climbing to CRZ altitude I got hi EGT temp warnings on all three engines. The plane was not overweight and Auto Flight was properly engaged. I leveled off at FL220 to relieve the engine stress But the engines seemed to be struggling to maintain proper thrust and I could not maintain Crz speed so I aborted the flight. Any idea what could have caused this? Thank you, Ken Boardman Ken Boardman

April 6, 201313 yr Author Thanks Rendi. Is there anything that can be done to work around it? Ken Ken Boardman
April 6, 201313 yr Ken the only thing I have found when too high of OAT are injected is to shut down and reload As2012 then it seems to inject the correct temps. Refresh alone wont work.
April 6, 201313 yr Author Thanks again Rendi. Appreciate the tip. I started the same route tonight using a freshly saved flight. Also took it easy on the initial climb (manual settings~ and was able to climb to cruise altitude with no issues. The TAT and other Wx was very near the same as for the previous (problematic) flight (TAT > 26C on ground). Don't really know what to think. As I mentioned earlier I have never seen this EGT thing before and I've done many departures in the MD11 from geographical hot spots. Next time I experience the issue I'll try your suggestion regarding AS2012 restart. Best regards, Ken Boardman Ken Boardman
April 6, 201313 yr I'm not sure why it happens, but sometimes ActiveSky forgets to make the weather colder at high flight levels. Typically at 35,000ft you will see temperatures in the -50°C range (Minus Fifty). I have seen it put the temperature the same as ground temp (ie 26°C) at FL3xx which is ISA (Standard Atmosphere) plus 76°C. The ISA equivalent of a sea level temperature of 92°C (except it's just FSX depicting the same temperature from ground to space). April 6, 201313 yr Just to make sure, did you have a small plane loaded before you switched to the MD11? Something like the trike or a Cessna. Manfred G. Ships are cooler that you think.
April 6, 201313 yr In the past I have had problems with AS2012 around the TINDI and ROLUM fixes on UP1 over the North Sea. For some reason the TAT would go from -8C to +47C in an instant and last anywhere from a second to several minutes. I have verified that the OAT does the same by checking the temperature on the PROGRESS page. This problem seems to have gone away with SP2. When it occurred I would start a slow descent of about 700 fpm until it went away and then climb back up to cruise altitude and get the speed squared away and the F-PLN INIT page completed again and continue on with the flight. It required no restart of AS2012 and like I indicated it seems to be gone with SP2. Manfred "Just to make sure, did you have a small plane loaded before you switched to the MD11? April 6, 201313 yr Just to make sure, did you have a small plane loaded before you switched to the MD11? Something like the trike or a Cessna. It has nothing to do with the aircraft. It happens with an Md11, 747, 767 ,757, 737 etc.
April 7, 201313 yr Are you using FSinn? If so make sure the weather function is disabled Mike Avallone [email protected],Corsair H115i cooler,ASUS 2080TI,GSkill 32GB pc3600 ram, 2 WD black NVME ssd drives, ASUS maximus hero MB
April 7, 201313 yr Author Thank you for all the tips and insight. Definately have things to monitor and examine if this issue raises it's uglie head again ~ Best to all, Ken Boardman Ken Boardman
April 7, 201313 yr It has nothing to do with the aircraft. It happens with an Md11, 747, 767 ,757, 737 etc. I think you missed the point of the question which was the MD-11 loaded into FSX with either the Trike or Cessna already in FSX. We know high temperatures can effect the planes you mentioned in your post. Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
April 18, 201313 yr Hi, I had the same yesterday during take off from OENG. Outside temperature on the airport was 36 deg. There was a temperature inversion in the lower layer of the atmosphere ( temperature increases for a while, when altitude decreases until a certain altitude then back to normal). So I suppose that the high egt on takeoff and climb was normal. To decrease egt, I just set a v/s of 1000ft per minute at 250kt. This way the N1 is lower and so the egt.
