April 9, 201313 yr Howdy, I just purchased the PMDG 747-400x and 747-8 expansion today and seem to be having problems with it straight away. I thought I would also mention that my FSX installation is only 1 month old and on a brand new system. Im using FSX Gold edition with Acceleration expansion pack. The problems I am experiencing are blacked out screens in the VC, missing portions of the aircraft when in exterior view and in the 747-8 I cannot view the VC correctly as shown in the pictures below. The installations both seemed to validate correctly and I ran all installers as Administrator. Any clues to why this is happeneing? I cant help but feel a little disappointed about this as this add on cost north of $100 and doesn't seem to work correctly and I cant seem to figure out why or how to fix it. I have tried uninstalling them both and reinstalling them with no success..
April 9, 201313 yr First off, this being a PMDG Forum, not Avsim's, you are required by their rules to sign in with your name. Secondly, having just bought this from them( was it a direct purchase from PMDG itself, or a disk from other sources, e.g. Aerosoft?)you may post a Support Ticket to PMDG who will readily furnish you with the solution. They are great at resolving issues like this. Give 'em a try. Rick Almeida
April 9, 201313 yr This is the place to go to: http://support.precisionmanuals.com/Main/Default.aspx What could be a solution (you'll need this FSX fix anyway) is: Put an additional line into your fsx.cfg: HIGHMEMFIX=1 Put it into the graphics section at the beginning of your fsx.cfg What happened to AVSIM
April 9, 201313 yr Author I already have HIGHMEMFIX=1 in the fsx.cfg doesn't seem to help having there or not.
April 9, 201313 yr There is a config manager (called something like "-400 -8 config", search start menu) you need to select the 747-8i so the VC shows up right. When flying the -400, you need to switch it back again. EDIT: yup it's called "PMDG 747-8 & 400 Config Manager" Edited April 9, 201313 yr by crimtye Wybe Witteveen VATSIM S3 Controller | Dutch VACC
April 9, 201313 yr It's a bit difficult to figure out from what you've described so far ... It could be a loading issue: After firing up FSX you should select a default (Microsoft) plane from the "Let's fly" screen. Only after loading that flight situation (already sitting in that default aircraft) should you change the aircraft to an addon plane. Same is true for reloading: Don't load one addon plane after another addon A/C. Any restrictions regarding your system specs: OS, RAM, graphics card? You'll need 64bit, 6-8 GB RAM and 512-1GB video memory. Other than that I'm at my wit's end. Be assured that PMDG people are more capable than me. And be assured, too, that they'll get your USD 100+ investment in the air. EDIT: Why do these two products sum up to more than 100 USD instead of, say, 80 USD? April 9, 201313 yr Author I will try the config manager and see if that helps. Thanks for the direction. I have no "default" aircraft in my current FSX installation. I deleted them all. I only have a select few aircraft of much higher quality of which I have purchased. Also I pretty much always exit FSX between aircraft changes. In regards to my system spec I don't think it would be causing the issue as I feel it is well more than capable. Its a intel 3770k @ 4.8ghz, 16gig ram, GTX680 2gig gpu (gigabyte super overclock edition), Win7 Pro 64bit on a SSD raid 0 configuration. Im hoping PMDG will come to my aid. I had been considering purchasing their product for quite some time and now that I did I would certainly like to feel that I got my money's worth in doing so.
April 9, 201313 yr You won't be mistaken by buying PMDG. This for sure is not a PMDG issue - as they will prove soon ... (I'm still wondering whether you should have at least one default plane for that startup situation ...) What happened to AVSIM
April 9, 201313 yr Author nahh I did originally but then got rid of it. My default plane is a A2A P-51D Mustang (Accusim). I just don't like any of the original planes FSX came with. So anyways I think I figured out the VC problem. I was using the configuration software incorrectly. It seems you must have FSX running with the desired plane (747-8 for example) selected first then go into the config manager utility and select the appropriate model setup you wish you use. Got my VC back. Still having an issue with the comp screens all blacked out in the 747-400x though.. Also I thought I'd ask while I was here.. are 4096 paints available for the PMDG 747's? I know you can download additional livery's but wasn't sure as I couldn't seem to find anything anywhere about 4096.
April 9, 201313 yr wont he need planes for AI ? Yes and no. With addon traffic: no. (...) Also I thought I'd ask while I was here.. are 4096 paints available for the PMDG 747's? I know you can download additional livery's but wasn't sure as I couldn't seem to find anything anywhere about 4096. First name coming to my mind: McPhat studios. Haven't checked it, though ... What happened to AVSIM
April 10, 201313 yr Welcome to AVSIM! in the 747-8 I cannot view the VC correctly You should have read the introductory manual! are 4096 paints available for the PMDG 747's? As Oliver mentioned, McPhat Studios produces excellent HD repaints, but I would save the money, as the PMDG B747 V2 will be released shortly, and should feature improved performance, systems complexity, and visuals.
April 10, 201313 yr As Oliver mentioned, McPhat Studios produces excellent HD repaints, but I would save the money, as the PMDG B747 V2 will be released shortly, and should feature improved performance, systems complexity, and visuals. He JUST bought a $100+ package of the 744, I think he wants to get his money's worth first. Thanks, Kevin L
April 10, 201313 yr With hindsight it would have been better to wait a bit for V2 or wait for the price drop on v1 ZORAN
