Which airport is this? Lol I just noticed it didnt say....

EU EGTR Elstree Airfield

Knew it was England just didn't know what airfield.

Thanks!

At what level of detail do we stop and say OK, well it's all very nice but I'm not walking through doors, or walking around the hangars, I'm actually some distance away in an aircraft. If the level of detail has no impact whatsoever, then fine, but if it has, then it seems pointless IMO. However, still a stunning job from Orbx.

I agree. I absolutely admire ORBX's work and how their sceneries look, but I fear they're overkilling a bit. After all, it's still Microsoft FLIGHT Simulator, not Microsoft Looking-at-sharp-door-textures-behind-hangar Simulator. Sceneries are importnant, but there must be a line. I wouldn't say anything if there was no performance impact, but with sceneries like this you'll get either low fps, blurries (who wants to wait 2 minutes just for textures to sharpen?) or you need to lower graphical fidelity in orbx configurator thingy they usually have for airports.

Cheers, George.

Nice video sir.

Some interesting comments here from a few.

Believe it or not, some of us really appeciate vendors who pay attention to small GA fields, and enjoy have a series of them that we can fly between. For many of us, they're our own versions of hubs. Orbx seems to have carved out a nice niche for themselves modeling these kinds of places and I'm glad of it.

As for the resolution and detail, I have several other fields that Russ White has done high res - Bella Coola and Stewart - and both perform very well on my fairly modest system - no "blurries" and solid framerates. The textures are incredible and the sense of immersion is awesome - really selling you that you are at a small, struggling GA airport.

To each their own, eh?

Another amazing piece of work from ORBX. While the ability to run this scenery smoothly may be outside the reach of many simmers, including me, if ORBX didn't try pushing the envelope with new products, we would not have the awesome products we have from them currently.

Now if I only had the computer that ORBX has to run it.

Have you actually tried this addon? I get excellent performance with my most demanding GA plane the A2A P51 civ, no blurries, buttersmooth... I think some people just draw hasty conclusions before even testing the scenerys they critizise.... I like supersharp runway textures and aprons so for me this is an excellent addon. The only thing I didn't like and that goes for most of the recent EU airports is the much smaller photoreal coverage than previous addons...

Great, so now we know it's possible. They're a talented bunch. But shouldn't they concentrate on more pressing matters, such as perhaps making the including detailed coverage area bigger or developing new products? I'm one of those who don't really slew their aircraft around the airfield looking for beautiful dumpsters or cracks in the car park pavement.

I'd much rather have something like KORS where they added a big area and even a couple of minor strips nearby the "major" airfield. I absolutely LOVE IT when they do that.

It whas a decision made by John Venema that they have smaller photoreal coverage, he didn't like that some of the realeses almost turned into mini regions inside Orbx regions and the amount of time the devs would use to make them. It's all about money, now they can give out the airports alot faster because of this. A decision I don't like but I can see why he made it. Im still buying their addons even if they are smaller and Im sure other customers do too.(I wish all customers would stop buying the airports with smaller coverage so we could make him change that decision but it's hard to resist)

I would liked to have more addons with huge photoreal coverage like KJAC but sadly It will not happen anymore... :(

Lol yup that's probably right heyLooks awesome though.

I'd buy it.

I will be. I wasn't going to get any England airports since their 'default' ones are pretty good anyway. But the last couple have changed my mind. Still... bring on NorCal. Then again, I'm still exploring the rest of their North America. ;-)
