April 21, 201313 yr Hi Everyone I am aware the support guys are really busy getting everyone sorted so I thought I would post here. I am slowly getting the hang of things with the amazing Dash 8 400 however I am having 1 serious issue that is spoiling the experience for me. I push the throttles forward to the t/o power setting and can control the aircraft with the ailerons as I have no pedals until about sixty knots and then start to pull strongly to the left and run off the runway. Any ideas short of buying rudder pedals how to stop this? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks Barra Regards Barra i7 7700K, 16GB 3200MHz DDR4, GTX1070 OC 8GB, 1TB Samsung SSD for OS and P3D4.4, W10 64Bit, Corsair H115i Water Cooling
April 21, 201313 yr Make sure you use the rudder after 40 knots. The control panel has a setting for the ailerons to control til tiller until 40 knots, so that could explain why you can steer until 60 knots ias... Use rudder from here just like other planes..
April 21, 201313 yr Don't you have a twist axis on your joystick? If not use the keys for rudder on your keybourd.
April 21, 201313 yr Author Thanks for the suggestions so far I have a saitek pro yoke, with no rudder pedals. I normally have the FSX setting where the ailerons control the rudder and have no real issue with the NGX etc but this one is giving me grief. April 21, 201313 yr Use the engines to steer pull the power on the engine on the side you want to turn ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170
April 21, 201313 yr Use the engines to steer pull the power on the engine on the side you want to turn Not on a takeoff roll! Steering should be done with rudder controls on the take off run. Under 40 kits, it will control the nose wheel +/- 8 degrees and above that the rudder is active enough to take over. Eric Szczesniak

April 21, 201313 yr He doesnt have rudder pedels but he can control both engines There are keyboard keys for rudders. If you're trying to actually simulate things rather than playing a game, using differential thrust is a big no-no on a takeoff run. It is a quick way to exceed yaw control limits and loose control of the aircraft. In fact, for very similar reasons, the 777 at some weights is forbidden from full rated thrust because yaw control would not be possible if an engine failed. Eric Szczesniak
April 21, 201313 yr No rudder pedals or twist stick or other means of controlling the rudder and he buys this airplane? Seems a bit unusual, or somehow in the wrong order of things. But hey, whatever floats your boat. I'd invest in rudder pedals or at least a twistable joystick if I wanted to fly aircraft of this caliber. I've got both and am playing with the idea of assigning the tiller to the twist axis on my joystick since I'm controlling the rudder with my pedals.
April 22, 201313 yr No rudder pedals or twist stick or other means of controlling the rudder and he buys this airplane? This seems a little harsh my friend!! I have exactly the same issue but I dont recall anyone at Just Flight advising me that I must have rudder pedals in order to operate the plane! I use a CH yoke and PMDG permit me to steer on my TO roll with autorudder on. I agree the Dash 8 is a very realistic piece of software but not all of us can afford to buy extra add-ons, particularly when the aircraft costs £40 to sart with. JON GREEN
April 24, 201313 yr Hi, Barra - a quick and easy way ( since you don't have rudder pedals) to stop this yawing to the left (by the way.....that is a very natural propwash effect in this aircraft - just like the real one!) Nice one, Majestic!!! What to do - go into the Aircraft's directory - I think it's called mjc8q400. Now go into the directory called ini. Find the line that says - YAW_DUE_TO_PROPWASH = 1. Change the 1 to a Zero.....save the file......"Problem" solved. Just understand - the plane will no longer yaw to the left, if you are hand flying and are "hands-off" in level flight. In real life - it does exhibit left yaw. The choice is yours. I took out the yawing - 'cause it drove me nuts - but that's me. All best, Ray L. (Blackbird)
April 24, 201313 yr Author Hi Ray Thanks for the advice, it is very helpful. I have ordered a set of rudder pedals but this will help greatly till they arrive. Many thanks once again.
