April 24, 201313 yr I couldn't go back and look at FS98 at this point (same goes FS2k2 for that matter). With the visuals of FSX thrown about everyday here and other places my install of FS9 is holding it's own but to go back pre-FS9 is a big 'No Thank You' in my book... April 24, 201313 yr If your an antique collector of computer stuff I suppose it would be fun to have installs of old fs stuff working on some old computer. Have it somewhere, don't ever use it, too much to do to keep my FSX running at top performance and keep adding. Also have P3D and want to get it fully up to speed but can't make the time yet. April 25, 201313 yr FS2002 is about as far back as I might go. FS2002 clouds did not look that good, except for the cirrus clouds, but it introduced a lot of what we see in FS9 and FSX--landclass, terrain mesh, aircraft with reflective textures, mountains that cast shadows, and so on. I also thought FS2002 did a great job of rendering the horizon. My add-on, Soft Horizons, was an effort to recapture that look for FS9 and FSX. FS2002 holds a special place in my heart as the foundation for what we see today in FS9 and FSX. My favorite "pre windows" sim was Flight Assignment ATP. I even figured out how to hack that sim to adjust the city "color". The cities defaulted to yellow, which didn't look right to me. I changed the city color to gray and made some other color changes. I can't remember how I did any of that, and it was long before such things could be uploaded to the web. I certainly enjoyed that sim and enjoyed it for a long time. John
April 25, 201313 yr What a coincidence…I was just going through some old boxes yesterday and found my original Flight Unlimited 3, Fly2K, MS FS2000 (Professional Edition no less), Strike Fighters Project 1, and Lock On Modern Air Combat disks. For a fleeting moment I thought about building a “retro” pc with all the parts I have laying around, installing WinXP and loading all those old titles up. On closer inspection most of the disks have “works with Win 95, 98, 98SE” written on them. That was a deal breaker for me. On another thought, I actually have video clips of every version of FS from day 1 through FSX. All I can say is WOW! I haven’t searched YouTube to see if anyone has posted a video containing all the versions, but if no one has, I might put one up. Philip

John FS2002 also had overcast clouds that actually obscured your view and made everything foggy. That even now hasn't been recreated in FS9/FSX.
April 25, 201313 yr Dillon, Watching the clips is a serious laugh since the first versions of FS were not much more than white lines moving around on the screen. I'll plan on putting a video together this weekend. Thanks, Philip

April 25, 201313 yr I wish I kept my old Pentium machine now. I donate everything I don't use anymore so no I haven't used FS98 since FS2000 was released. Would be curious to run it again. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
